About the Book

Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) device applications are common in many areas. Micromirror arrays are used as video projectors; microsensors find their application for measuring acceleration, temperature, and pressure; and they can also be used in the medical field for measuring blood pressure. Microfluidics have also been widely employed in life sciences applications, such as drug development and administration, point-of-care devices, and more. To use these technologies to their fullest extent, further research is needed. Advances in MEMS and Microfluidic Systems explores the emerging research and advances in MEMS devices and microfluidic systems applications. It features in-depth chapters on microfluidic device design and fabrication as well as on the aspects of devices/systems, characterization, and comparative research findings. Covering topics such as biosensors, lab-on-a-chip, and microfluidic technology, this premier reference source is an indispensable resource for engineers, health professionals, students and educators of higher education, librarians, researchers, and academicians.

Dr. Rajeev Kumar Singh completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, in 2014, M. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering (Industrial Systems Engineering) from Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology, Sultanpur UP, in 2007, and a B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) from Yeshwant Rao Chavan College of Engineering, Nagpur in 1992. His research interests include MEMS, active and passive separation, cell elasticity and deformation, cell handling and trapping, colorimetric detection, environmental monitoring, flow field and fuel cell. Dr Rakesh Kumar Phanden is a distinguished academician and researcher. His academic journey reached its pinnacle when he completed a Ph.D. at the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, India. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Amity University Uttar Pradesh India, Federation University Australia, and Institute of Health & Management, North Melbourne, where he brings a wealth of knowledge and research insight to his role. Dr. Phanden's academic contributions extend beyond the conventional classroom setting. His active engagement with the scholarly community is evident through his participation in numerous conference technical sessions and his role as Reviewer for various esteemed SCIs and Scopus-indexed international journals. Notably, he has showcased his organizational prowess by playing pivotal roles in coordinating several international conferences, including ICNDME 2014, FLAME 2020, FLUTE 2021, FLUTE 2023, FLAME 2022, and FLAME 2024, serving as Organizing Secretary and Convener. He is the Author and Editor of 8 books and has edited 6 special issues for Scopus and SCI-indexed journals. Additionally, his role as Editorial Board Member for several journals underscores his dedication to shaping academic discourse. With a remarkable teaching career spanning 17 years, Dr. Phanden has left an indelible mark on the academic landscape, having imparted knowledge in private and government institutes and universities in India and abroad. His research portfolio is equally impressive, comprising over 100 papers presented at both national and international levels. Dr. Phanden received an International Travel Grant from DST, enabling collaborative research ventures in the USA and visits to prominent global destinations such as London, Singapore, Turkey, Dubai, and various other African countries. His global engagements reflect his unwavering dedication to advancing research and fostering academic collaboration in alignment with the vision of Amity University. Prof. (Dr.) Basant Singh Sikarwar is a Postdoc from Iowa State University USA, Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India, and MTech Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India. His research experience is quite diversified in many aspects of thermo-fluids research with an emphasis on phase change phenomena and the formation of interfaces. The subject is poised for growth because of several engineering applications such as optimization of cooling techniques, thermal management of engineering systems, drop evaporation dynamics, boiling, water harvesting from moist air, dropwise condensation, and thermal energy storage. During his Ph.D., he developed a Finite Volume-based CFD solver, and his research group has been using this CFD solver for his research in thermal and fluid engineering. He published 75+ SCI/Scopus-indexed journals and 100+ Scopus-indexed conference manuscripts. He completed one research-funded project of the Science Engineering Research Board (SERB), India, and three research-funded projects are going on in his lab. He chaired many conferences and is a member of the editorial board of many journals and book series. He supervised four Ph.D. students, and four Ph.D. students are currently doing research in his lab. Currently, He is a Professor and Heading the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Amity University, NOIDA, India. In addition, he is an Assistant Director at the Amity Directorate of Engineering, Technology, and Innovation (ADETI) and a member of the task force, Amity Institute of Defence Technology. Dr. Sikarwar has delivered many guest lectures at National/International conferences and workshops. He has also been the author/co-author of two books and the inventor of 10 Indian patents. J.
