About the Book

Scottish writer Val McDermid is one of the most respected authors at the scene of the crime, and Fever of the Bone offers a bravura display of her exceptional storytelling talents. Criminal profiler Tony Hill and his ally Detective Chief Inspector Carol Jordan are back in this terrifying psychological thriller, tracking down a brutal killer who's targeting a group of young people through a social networking site. A winner of the Gold Dagger Award, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and an Edgar(R) Award nominee--a New York Times Notable author whose writing Entertainment Weekly calls, "smooth, confident, deeply satisfying,"--Val McDermid is a crime fiction force of nature. And Fever of the Bone is among her best. "McDermid is as smooth a practitioner of crime fiction as anyone out there. ... She's the best we've got."--New York Times Book Review

Review :
"[Fever of the Bone] reminds us just how finely plotted and intelligently written McDermid's crime novels are. More, please--and soon." -- "Irish Independent" "A brilliant succession of shocks and surprises. McDermid has never written better." -- "Times (London)" "A moving novel, not just a gripping one." -- "Financial Times" "About as good a psychological thriller as it is possible to get...Fever of the Bone is everything a great detective novel should be: pacey, gripping, clever, and stylish...A fantastic read." -- "Sunday Express (London)" "At a stroke, McDermid is already pushing our pleasure buttons. Hill and Jordan's 'will they, won't they' is one of the most intriguing in the crime field...[She] effortlessly finesses the accelerating tension as authoritatively as she characterizes her large cast. McDermid is a first-rate writer as Fever of the Bone resoundingly reminds us...[she is] at the peak of her profession." -- "Express (London)" "Hill's own family crises and his 'will they, won't they' relationship with Jordan are expertly dovetailed into a wonderfully complex plot. McDermid is especially good at serving up a mix of hi-tech and old-fashioned coppering, as well as showing how proximity to extreme brutality can take its toll on even the toughest police officer." -- "Guardian (London)" "It takes great skill to handle so many narrative strands with clarity without sacrificing the suspense--but McDermid does so with apparent ease." -- "Evening Standard (London)" "McDermid demonstrates once again that she's as adept with matters of the heart as she is with murder." -- "Publishers Weekly" "McDermid expertly blends her ingredients into a tense and often frightening crime novel. She writes incisively about the world we live in, ranging confidently from teenage technobabble to the politics of modern policing. Carol Jordan and Tony Hill are surely the most impressive double act in contemporary crime fiction." -- "Spectator (London)" "McDermid is both a fiendish plot strategist and a highly skilled writer, deftly delivering shocks, sometimes with no more than an out-of-place word." -- "Booklist" "McDermid remains unrivaled at yoking chilling scenarios to a pulsing narrative...Hill's torment is palpable in this scary, dark thriller. Horrible and brilliant." -- "Observer (London)" "The relationship between Tony and Carol continues to intrigue." -- "Daily Mail (London)" Val McDermid and she has outdone herself in this strange maze of a psychological thriller." -- "Washington Times"
