About the Book

Critically acclaimed author Frances O'Roark Dowell has penned numerous books for young adults, including the Edgar Award-winning Dovey Coe. The Second Life of Abigail Walker introduces listeners to Abby, a sixth grader who's a little heavier than her peers--and who shoulders the brunt of their ridicule because of it. Finally giving up on trying to fit in, Abby discovers a new life, and new friends, waiting just around the bend.

About the Author :
Frances O'Roark Dowell is the bestselling and critically acclaimed author of Dovey Coe, which won the Edgar Award, Where I'd Like to Be, The Secret Language of Girls and its sequel The Kind of Friends We Used to Be, Chicken Boy, Shooting the Moon, which was awarded the Christopher Medal, and more. She lives with her husband and two sons in Durham, North Carolina. Maria Cabezas has lent her considerable talents to literary works by some of the world's top authors including Andrea Beaty, Frances O'Roark Dowell and Isabel Allende and titles including The Girl Who Threw Butterflies, Drizzle and The Second Life of Abigail Walker to name a few.

Review :

"Dowell creates a sympathetic and honest heroine with a flair for drama, humor, and creativity, and she resists a tidy ending in a novel that feels both timeless and entirely of-the-moment."

-- "Publishers Weekly (starred review)"

"Dowell masterfully handles the hot button topic of bullying and will have readers contemplating the pettiness and self-loathing that supports it. Beating at the triumphant heart of the book is Abigail's realization that life is fullest when experienced genuinely. This is a story of Abigail's crossings: crossing a computer lab to make a friend; crossing a street to find peaceful isolation; crossing a creek to escape a tormentor; and crossing all the lines drawn to prevent her from feeling alive inside. A timely and heartening book for today's middle schoolers."

-- "Booklist (starred review)"

"What's wonderful is how Dowell...gracefully draws the many concentric circles of Abby's life."

-- "New York Times Book Review"
