Not only a wayward journey of living life and beating the odds, this book is an inspiring, romantic, and sometimes clever venture through the grittiness of being human. It's about surviving both the wilderness of the great outdoors, and of the soul.
Just let the troubled kid grow out of it, the doctors insisted. Their misdiagnosis of a nerve condition trapped Steven inside his introverted world. On the outside, he became strong and fast, but inside, he only grew more inwardly. Confined within the walls of his vivid dreamworld, like a lit fuse, his adolescent years were on fire, leaving a trail of rebellion and breaking the rules from living harder than the loneliness and pain warring inside. His life calmed, but never tamed, once he discovered the hunger of the blank page in his late teens.
While writing ignited his imagination to life, it wasn't until in his mid-twenties when a white puppy brought steady companionship into Steven's life. As they began their 14 year journey of roaming the open road, Ghost grew into a beautiful dog, and quite the ham. Despite Steven's awkwardly social demeanor, he crossed paths with wanderers, loners, and those searching for a place in this world...misfits like himself-adding adventure and romance to his own search of finding his place in this world.
Along the way Steven stumbled upon God. The rules of religion couldn't hold him either, finding himself instead wrestling with the creator of this universe more so than walking with Him.
He could never part with that daredevil spirit, causing the second half of this book to be more thrilling than the first.
To write a book felt daunting, because Steven had never written for anyone to read. Ten years soared by, and as the writing of it transformed into the greatest adventure of his life, infused between the lines is a literary magic beyond him which occurs when a book and its writer merge into one.
Not only are some of the challenges, and lessons learned the hard way, of creating this book included in his memoir, breathed into his story is what writing this book has burned into Steven's own heart.
About the Author :
Steven E Meyer was born on the road to a teenage, runaway mom. He was raised by his step-father in Charleston, SC, to be a hard worker. But it was a mysterious nerve condition misdiagnosed by doctors, and misunderstood by everyone else, which would define Steven's life.
His journey toward writing began with his vivid dreamworld, a growing universe within, where the pain and loneliness of his childhood was soothed by his imagination.
After being confined within those walls of his dreamworld, he found an escape in his late teens when he discovered the hunger of the blank page. This ignited his inner world into a lifetime of pouring out his trapped thoughts and feelings. His writing would help him find a place in this world among people who also struggle, and with those who don't fit in.
As a young adult, it took a three-month old puppy to do what a childhood of counselors and doctors couldn't. Steven traveled with his four-legged best friend, daredeviling across the country, ever keeping a step ahead of an otherwise overwhelming condition. As Steven took on nature and worked construction, living harder than the pain warring inside, he crossed paths people along the way, wanderers, loners, and misfits like himself.
Steven's encounter with God awakened him spiritually. Along with God's inner peace and wholeness, apart from any religion, and Steven never giving up his daredevil spirit, would result in a life of him wrestling with God more so than walking with Him.
Steven continues to live a mostly solitary life, finding those wanderers, loners, and misfits along the way. Pursuing his love for writing, he began his memoir at age 50.
