About the Book

Ten-year-old John Daniel is found to be the last person to see his eight-year-old sister alive. While the police investigation focuses on him, the case soon grows cold. Rocky O'Hara-a P. I. who has recently moved from Atlanta, Georgia, to Portland, Maine-is hired by family member Margaret Powell to investigate. Rocky had solved a similar case in Atlanta, a case which haunts him still. John Daniel-who everyone recognizes as being "different"-and his mother appear a bit too closed-mouthed for Rocky's comfort, while Margaret seems determined to solve the girl's murder. Then out of the blue, Rocky receives a letter from Margaret dismissing him from the case. Why? Has she learned something that Rocky has yet to uncover? This murder mystery will haunt Rocky, John Daniel, and his family into the twenty-first century.

About the Author :
As a toddler, Sue Baumgardner made up stories for herself looking at books she could not read and later spun tales for her younger sisters. After she had her own children, she told them tales and eventually wove a new pattern into the fabric of their lives. After her children were adults, Sue studied writing, first poetry and then prose. After six semesters in adult education, she was thoroughly hooked on the story art-form. Sue continued with dozens of classes, seminars and writing retreats. She has studied writing and publishing under the likes of James Patterson, Peter Behrens, and Mark Dawson. As a contributor to Discover Maine Magazine, Sue received her first check for her prose. Her poetry has been published in The Aurorian. She has six of her paperbacks along with four ebooks published. They include fiction and nonfiction for adults, and fiction for Middle Readers. Her very first publishing, though, began with Greeting Card Universe, where Sue's greeting cards with verse are sold across the world.

Review :
"Baumgardner's... rendering of the deeply disturbed and unexpectedly complex John Daniel is particularly riveting, and she manages to wring a horror novel's worth of tension from his relationships over the course of the tale." -Kirkus Reviews on Where Sin Increased
