About the Book

  • Discover the Rituals of the Order of the Amaranth
  • Authored by prominent 19th-century Masonic publisher and organizer Robert Macoy, The Amaranth is the foundational text for one of the most unique and enduring appendant bodies in Freemasonry. Originally intended as a higher, exalted degree within the Rite of Adoption (which included the Order of the Eastern Star), the Order of the Amaranth eventually became an independent fraternal organization dedicated to truth, faith, wisdom, and charity.
  • In this historic manual, Macoy details the complete ceremonial work, organizational rules, and symbolic teachings of the Order. The text provides a fascinating window into the expansion of Freemasonry in the United States and the organized inclusion of women and Master Masons into the broader Masonic family.
  • Inside this historic Masonic reference, readers will explore:
    • The Rite of Adoption: The history, structure, and rules of this prominent Masonic appendant body.
    • Ceremonial Work: The initiation rituals, symbolic lectures, and floor work required for the degree.
    • Fraternal History: A crucial primary source for understanding the 19th-century evolution of women's roles within American Freemasonry.
  • Whether you are a practicing member of a Masonic order, a historian of secret societies, or a researcher of fraternal organizations, The Amaranth is an essential addition to your Masonic library.
