About the Book

Join eminent ultramarathon champion Greg Brooks on an epic run-for-your-life, soul-searching journey as he recounts his athletic and Christian paths through life. From the depths of addiction in the Sixties' rampant drug culture, to the pinnacle of revitalization high atop Mount Kilimanjaro, run with Greg as he navigates the highs and lows of his unique experiences. Greg's memoir is laced with the American history of his ancestors, takes a fascinating look at the Fortune 500 Eastman Kodak Company, and also features the poignant poetry of his father. His overall message for you is that you can run the Race of Life and be a winner in Christ.

Endorsement:

Whether you are an avid runner, race organizer, or a born-again Christian, you will be enthralled by this work of Coach Brooks. He has reached the perfect balance between the physical aspects of running and the spiritual pursuit of finishing his personal race with grace.

- "Cap'n Bagel" Bob Dyjak, originator of the Bagel Bunch running group in Greece, NY, and race director for the Rochester Thanksgiving Day "Race with Grace" 10K for 25 years.

Why we run... it is often asked and often discussed. Brooks Running explains why one runs and why running is a parallel to life in more ways than one. Brooks knows about life's highs and lows and how to stay the course. Life is a marathon, not a sprint. Words of wisdom come from the pages, thanks to a well-decorated marathoner. Brooks makes running look easy, which is why so many people have followed in his footsteps. Come along on this incredible journey with him as he retraces his runs through some of the most memorable courses and recounts the blessings that life has to offer. Brooks Running is a story of one man's perseverance and dedication to all things that matter. And, when you hit the proverbial wall, Greg shows you how to run through it with grit and gusto.

-Chris Boshnack, Founder of Gold Rush Runners, Rochester, NY.

About the Authors:

Greg Brooks

As a corporate engineer, father, coach, church elder, and national award-winning ultramarathon runner, "having it all" and speeding through life, Greg Brooks was hit with a career-ending wall set up by the merciless forces of Fate. But he listened to God's steady voice and rose above the ruins to shout, "Survive!" to himself, and to all those whose paths he would cross. Today, although disabled, he leads a non-profit that constructs caskets for and by the homeless. Greg lives with his wife, Donna, in Irondequoit, NY.

Heather Beck is an adjunct lecturer of English composition and tutor and has thirty years of experience working with writers. She holds master's degrees in English and Education and believes in helping all students achieve their fullest potential.

For sure he's had a very interesting life! Maybe what I like best is Greg's caring nature compounded by a great sense of humor! Greg is a terrific contributor to the people of Rochester in so many positive ways, such as his coaching, running over many years, and his reaching out to learn about blind people and their cool form of baseball. With 20 Boston marathons and numerous ultra races around the USA, Greg surely has bragging rights, but he doesn't brag; he looks to be a support for others. I loved his story of his family's dog, Brigitte, which brought tears to my eyes, just as it did to Greg's. His message is short; let's treat each other with respect and kindness!

- "Boston Billie"/Bill Rodgers, Olympian record holder in the Marathon, with four first-place finishes in both the Boston and New York City Marathons.

This book is written from a genuine place. It fills the reader with curiosity about Greg's life tale as well as a sense of connection to everything we ask ourselves about our faith, our capabilities, our past, and our expectations for the future... It communicates the feeling that we are not alone in the emotions that go along with all of that.

-Nancy Perry, music therapist for Greece Central Schools, NY.

As an acquaintance, contemporary, fellow vet and runner, and local church pastor in Brooks's hometown, I can identify closely with his carefully written story. Greg tells four essential truths about his life and experience-he knows what he believes and why; he is secure in the fact that he belongs to the One who created him; he recognizes that he is a part of a cause greater than himself, worthy of lifelong pursuit; and he is certain that he must fill his days with hope for the future. That hope is not a thing but a person-Jesus Christ! This is an open, honest, truth-filled, compelling account of the life of an exceptional man, Greg Brooks.

-Pastor George Grace, First Bible Baptist Church, Hilton, NY.
