About the Book

Discover your inner confidence and how to navigate the exciting world of modeling-whether or not you become a model. Regardless of your weight, health, size, religion or nationality, author Claudia Mason believes there is a supermodel in all of us. Discovered at age thirteen, Mason has lived through the journey from unknown to supermodel and shares with us here her wealth of knowledge. Though teens may hate to admit it, they are still in the earliest stages of adulthood and need guidance-especially if their guardians are clueless to the inner workings of the entertainment industry. Modeling is a demanding career that places tremendous pressure on a young person to perform well, look perfect, and win the job and good graces of the adults around them. Scary stuff for teens, as well as for their parents. So who to turn to? Whom to trust? Where to go? It's here where Mason lends her invaluable advice and expertise. Join her as she opens the doors of the industry to you and provides you with the tools you'll need to safely thrive in this fast-paced industry. Mason starts with tips for getting into the business and goes on to explain the necessary role of chaperones for models under eighteen. Learn how to become assertive and work with agents and bookers, and how to manage your money from your newfound success. Mason also touches on more serious issues by discussing how to navigate a work place that so often intersects with the world of "sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll." Discover advice for helping your teen stay true to themselves and come out ahead. And finally learn about what to expect after the too-short window for modeling closes and also about ways to build a brand that lasts. Through Mason's The Insider's Guide to Teen Modeling and Finding the Supermodel in YOU, teens will learn how to be happy, confident models who can survive the frontlines of fashion. The expertise Mason passes along to would-be models is equally relevant for all teens, as well as adults.

Review :
“It is with great pleasure that I recommend Claudia Mason’s book. Claudia is certainly one of the true stars from the Supermodel Era. No one will ever forget her Mademoiselle Grunge cover from February 1993! I loved her in my clothes, and on my runway. She has had a long career in the business, and possesses intelligence, confidence, warmth, and dignity . . . I can’t imagine anyone better suited to guide young models.” —Anna Sui, Fashion Designer “It was always so much fun to work with Claudia. She was one of the great models of the supermodel era, and gave a special smart quality to the clothes on the runway and in photos. She has a wonderful personality which adds to her great face and body, important qualities for me in a model. She just looks smart. Versatility is of the utmost importance in that field and I think Claudia really embodies that while remaining pretty neutral. She showed the clothes, which a lot of models don’t care about, they care more about showing themselves. She’s the definition of a pro and has had an amazing exemplary career and I think she would be the perfect guide for younger models today.” —Isaac Mizrahi, Fashion Designer “I worked with Claudia Mason on several shoots with top photographers during the late '90s, she was always hard working and dedicated, a pleasure to have around, funny and easy-going. She understood teamwork from a very young age and her commitment to the job was always remarkable. Claudia is a beautiful and well-mannered woman, and her compassionate nature makes her very special to me.” —Sciascia Gambaccini, Fashion Director, Vanity Fair Italia “What makes Claudia Mason a great model is her ability to make us believe she is whatever character she is portraying in a photo or on the runway. She can project elegance, innocence, power, sweetness, sexiness, anything the clothes she is wearing call for. As an editor it is easy to use her for any shoot or put her in any designer’s fashion show. She knows the nuances of how to hold her body, change her expression, alter her walk, so whoever sees the photo of her or the show she is in, believes she is the woman who actually owns the clothes she is modeling. I think she is able to do this because of her generous, open nature. It must allow her to feel whatever that woman must feel when she is in those clothes. Whatever the reason, it has allowed us to look at that incredible face for all these years—and I for one am happy I had the privilege to work with her.” —Paul Cavaco, Creative Director, Allure Magazine “Claudia has always been a pleasure to work with. She’s a fantastic model, and she’s always been keenly aware of how to work her hair to enhance the outfits she was modeling, whether on set or on the catwalk.” —Sam McKnight, Hairstylist “No one would know better than Claudia to give advice on the world of modeling . . . she was such a great model herself! Smart, clever, and witty with a great face, she was able to adapt to whatever mood and look was desired in front of the camera. She was funny and bright and a joy to be around. We had great times together.” —Mary Greenwell, Makeup Artist “I have worked with Claudia many times over the years. We first met in Paris in the '90s. Her beauty and spirit have always been an inspiration to me. She’s a great model and a wonderful woman, always has been.” —Pamela Hanson, Photographer “I always laughed so much with Claudia whenever we worked together. She has a great spirit and was wonderful to photograph. Not to mention the complete professional that she is.” —Enrique Badulescu, Photographer “The first time I met Claudia was on a shoot in Thailand. I remember when I first looked at her to be amazed at how superb she was. Since then I worked with her many more times. Because to me, she performed just like an actress would, taking on the different roles I asked her to portray for the camera. She always got right into the idea of the shot, we also had great fun on all the jobs we did around the world. She’s a top model who is smart and funny too, and knows with her friendship how to bring an extraordinary support to the whole team.” —Christophe Kutner, Photographer I can't wait to read Claudia's book! Knowing her and working with her has been a privilege and an honor!!! Her professionalism, humor, and positive outlook on life has always inspired me and helped people like me to get better at what they do! I am very grateful to Claudia and I know I am not the only one!" —Serge Normant, Celebrity Stylist “It is with great pleasure that I recommend Claudia Mason’s book.
