About the Book

In the newest high-stakes historical thriller from master storyteller Davis Bunn, skepticism vies with faith amid the grit and grandeur of post-World-War-I Europe. It's 1923, and a resilient Paris is starting to recover from the ravages of World War I and the Spanish Flu Epidemic. Enter young Muriel Ross, an amateur American photographer tasked with documenting the antiques that her employer, U.S. Senator Tom Bryan, has traveled to France in order to acquire. Although she's exhilarated to have escaped her parents and the confines of their stifling Virginia home, Muriel has lingering questions about why the senator has chosen her for this grand adventure. Nevertheless, she blossoms in her new surroundings, soaking up Parisian culture and capturing the sights and sounds of Paris on her camera. But events take a dangerous turn when she discovers that the senator is on a mission far more momentous--and potentially deadly--than a mere shopping trip. At the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Senator Bryan asks Muriel to photograph an astonishing artifact: a piece of the True Cross, discovered by Empress Helena--a historical figure familiar to readers of The Pilgrim. When rumors surface that another fragment has been unearthed, Muriel becomes enmeshed in a covert international alliance dedicated to authenticating the fragment--and protecting it from those who will stop at nothing to steal and discredit it. The audio edition of this book can be downloaded via Audible.

Review :
Praise for the novels of Davis Bunn "A great story filled with emotion, depth, and spiritual beauty." -- Debbie Macomber, #1 New York Times bestselling author "There are very few inspirational-style concepts that have the potential to become major mainstream hits. [This] is at the top of this list. Exciting, relevant, and accessible." --Norman Stone, director of Shadowlands and Agatha Christie's Miss Marple "A fast-paced, gripping thriller." --Phyllis Tickle, compiler of The Divine Hours "Bunn has created a stunning, multilayered tale of power and, ultimately, hope." --Publishers Weekly "Bunn brings readers into the heart of humanity.... This novel moves quickly with twists and turns along the way that keep readers excited and engaged." --Romantic Times Book Reviews (four stars) "Inventive and incisive, Bunn's fiction never disappoints." --Jerry B. Jenkins, #1 New York Times bestselling author "Bunn is known for novels that are both moving and gripping." --Palo Alto Daily News "Superb writing. In a class by itself." --Providence Journal "An amazing story of the sustaining, redemptive power of faith and a vibrant biblical community--all rolled into a high-stakes, pulse-pounding police drama. Davis Bunn proves once again why he is truly a master storyteller." --Mark Mynheer, former homicide detective and author of The Corruptible "If you are a reader of Bunn's electric thrillers, don't miss this one. If for any reason you have missed his previous ones, this is a great place to start." --Janette Oke, New York Times bestselling author "Gripping and topical." --Orlando Sentinel "Davis Bunn is a master craftsman. He blends the perfect amount of compassion, intrigue, complexity, and then overdoses with six parts of excitement. He leaves me with tears in my eyes and thinking I've had three or four heart attacks." --Ray Hall, founder of Prison Book Project "As always, Bunn works Christian themes into the story but in a subtle way. They're there if you want to see them, but if you'd prefer to see the book strictly as an engaging action thriller with a romantic subplot, that works, too." --Booklist "This exciting, action-packed thriller features a strong sense of place in its depictions of the people and politics of the Middle East. It is sure to please his fans and win him new ones." --Library Journal "The nonstop action and suspense demand to be met by fast-paced reading. I highly recommend this powerful masterpiece." --Christianbook.com "God has blessed Davis Bunn well with great story telling ability and how to apply his talent with what is happening in the world today." --Lincoln Davis, former United States Congressman from Tennessee
