About the Book

"The only constant in the world is change "sums up the current state of the telecommunication networks well. The rapid development in technology, architecture, multiplexing techniques and network management has resulted in a major knowledge gap vis-a-vis the formal education imparted in engineering colleges and the needs of the industry. To address this, Warier provides a comprehensive introduction to existing transport technologies and data networks and their convergence. The book covers the current and future technologies that are poised to change the way telecommunication networks are designed and deployed, such as reality technologies, Time-division multiplexing (TDM), 5G Wireless Broadband ecosystem, IoT, Cloud Infrastructure, Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN). It's also unique in its presentation of the architecture of the photonic circuit switched as well as packet switched networks. Each concept is reinforced with case studies and illustrations which will provide readers with the necessary knowledge to design, deploy and troubleshoot photonic networks. While the new generation of readers may grasp the conceptual framework fairly quickly without being bogged down by the past, the book also provides a historical perspective in order to properly understand and appreciate the current technologies as well as aid the integration of the old with the new.

Table of Contents:
Part 1-Introduction to Telecom Networks; Telecommunication Networks- Evolution, Key Components & Techniques; Voice and Data Transmission; Fiber Optic Communication Fundamentals; Optical Link Design; Part 2- Photonic Network Architecture; Transport Networks-A Prologue; Synchronous Optical Networks; Optical Transport Networks; Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing; Part 3-Next Generation Photonic Networks- Applications & Architecture; Photonic Circuit Switched Network Architecture; Photonic Packet Switched Core Network; Understanding Reality Technologies; Virtualization and Software Defined Networking Ecosystem.

About the Author :
Sudhir Warier is a principal mentor at Cognitio. He received his chartered engineering degree from IETE and his M.S. Philosophy from Alagappa University, his Master of Financial Management from Pondicherry University and his B.S. in electronics and telecommunications engineering from Karnatak University.

Review :
A human capability management and leadership coach, author, speaker, poet, consultant, and freelance trainer, Sudhir Warier draws upon his more than 35 years of experience and expertise in the telecom and IT industries to provide a complete course of instruction in the field of optical networks in "Engineering Optical Networks" provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts of transport and data networks. This resource examines backbone network architectures and functions. The evolution, key components, and techniques of telecommunication networks are presented, including voice and data transmission, fiber optic communication and optical link design. "Engineering Optical Networks" deftly explores the photonic network architecture and includes chapters on transport networks, synchronous optical networks, optical transport networks, and dense wavelength division multiplexing. Impressively informative and exceptionally well organized and presented, "Engineering Optical Networks" will prove to be an ideal curriculum textbook and is especially recommended as an addition to corporate, professional, and academic library Engineering Optical Network Technology collections.
