About the Book

Have you ever thought about bringing your dragon to the library? Don't do it! You might have the best intentions, but that dragon will cause nothing but trouble. Using rhyming text and a diverse cast of characters, this charming picture book will provide some important—and some not so important—library etiquette in a very entertaining way. AGES: 3-7 AUTHOR: The youngest in a family of nine children, Julie Gassman grew up in Howard, South Dakota. After college, she traded in small-town life for the world of magazine publishing in New York City. She now lives in southern Minnesota with her husband and their three children. ILLUSTRATOR: After graudating from Art College in the UK, Andy began a career as a graphic designer in the video games industry, when it was very much in it's infancy. He continued as a graphic designer for fourteen years, until he decided to go back to his illustrative roots and try his hand at being a children's book illustrator. Since 2002 he has produced work for picturebooks, educational books, advertising, and toy design. He has been a finalist, twice, in the "Language Learner Literature" Awards, and has worked for clients all over the world. He currently lives in a small tourist town on the West coast of Scotland, with his wife and three children. SELLING POINTS: • Great read aloud with energetic rhyming text • Dragons are a popular subject • Underlying theme of following rules and proper etiquette • Important message: Story reminds the readers how fun the library and reading can be

Review :
Dragons are rude, they set things on fire, they break things, all in all, there are a lot of reason why you shouldn't bring your dragon to the library. So, why not borrow books for your dragon to enjoy at home? Excellent rules for dragon owners!-- "Imagination Soup" Dragons may love the library, but it doesn't love them back. There's the whole fire-breathing thing, of course. . . .The premise might draw giggles...-- "Publishers Weekly" Just in case, you better learn all the reasons why it's not a good idea to bring your pet dragon to the library. Better read to him at home.-- "Imagination Soup" The illustrations are bright, colorful, and action-packed. . . .The book promotes diversity, with two main characters of color. Readers who enjoy "Easter eggs" will get a kick out of clever image background details like the name of the library (Honalee).-- "Seattle Book Review" The vibrantly colored illustrations overflow the pages, use aerial perspectives, and accentuate the size of the dragons. It's a clever approach to proper library do's and don'ts. Kudos for including a kid in a wheelchair in the thoughtfully diverse cast. . . .The dragons are as colorful as the characters are multiracial, appearing in shades of vivid purple, blue, green, and orange polka dots. . . .This cautionary tale set in a library with dragon patrons is worth circulating.-- "Kirkus" Unfortunately, for all the fire-breathers out there who also love a good book, dragons and libraries just don't mix, and Julie Gassman will tell you why in Do Not Bring Your Dragon to the Library, a rhyming misadventure through the shelves and story corner of a local library. Dragons and patrons are a multihued variety shown in lively illustrations from Andy Elkerton. The scene at the library is happening, even with the disruptive behemoths, and boys and girls will be inspired to check out books and story times...-- "Foreword Reviews"
