About the Book

Including games featured in the acclaimed Netflix series, Squid Games!

Tok. Tok. Tok. That's the sound of jegi!
When Dongje finds his friends playing jegi without him, he confronts Han, the jegi champion of Yonggol, only to find out that they don't want to play with him because he's the worst player. But after Dongje's grandpa gives him a colorful jegi made out of feathers, he is shocked at how easily he picks up the game! Jealous of Dongje's new skills, Han challenges him to a game, but is holding the title of jegi master really the most important part of playing?

From the renowned author of Let's Play Ddakji and Let's Play Gonggi comes the third book in the Traditional Korean Games series, Let's Play Jegi. With the history of jegi's origins and detailed instructions of how to play, kids will learn about this fun, fast-footwork South Korean game through an engaging story of friendship and scrapbook-style illustrations.

About the Author :
Im Seo-Ha studied literature at university. After graduation, she worked as an editor for a publishing house. Still, the chattering little writer in her heart kept sticking her head out and writing. As an active co-creator of Three People-a creative group specializing in children's books-she has written many books, including Let's Play Ddakji, Let's Play Gonggi, Pick and Read Traditional Fairy Tales from Textbooks. Choi Byung-dae always liked to draw. He majored in painting at an art college and went to a school that focused on picture book illustrations. He is getting to know picture books day by day, thinking about stories and living a life immersed in the fun-filled making of them. In 2014, he won the Illustrator of the Year award at the Bologna International Children's Book Fair. In 2017, he began to draw attention by announcing his work, The Runny Nose. The Monster Appeared was selected in the 2019 Sejong Book Liberal Division, and Give Me Your Hand was selected as a 2019 Sharing Book. Good Night! and Dad's Childhood When it Snows were selected as 2021 and 2022 Bookstart books.

Review :
"A childhood game breaks barriers in this Korean import . . . layers of colors textured with patterns and scribbles combine with exaggerated facial proportions, capturing the emotional arcs of the characters. Information about the origins of jegichagi and simple rules for playing the game follow. High emotions and sportsmanship play out in this amusing venture." --Kirkus Reviews

Praise for the Traditional Korean Games series

"[Im Seo-Ha] includes information about ddakji, including how to play, how to make a paper tile, and the origins of the game. The illustrations look like cut-paper, dynamically depicting all the action and colorful pairing with the events of the story . . . For any young reader fascinated by games, this is a simple story that has multiple approaches for discussion and use."--School Library Journal

"A charming tale of rediscovery and community."--Kirkus Reviews

"The Korean Wave is blowing hard in the world right now. The Korean Wave, which started with K-pop, seems to have reached its peak recently-a K-drama on Netflix is top-ranked. Now, people around the world can enjoy not only Korean dramas and music, but also a variety of cultures' games. Let's Play Ddakji was created to introduce children to traditional games that Korean children enjoy and that inspired big-hit K-Drama shows. You may learn and enjoy Korean traditional games just as much as K-drama shows." --Kim Byuun-oh, CEO of Vandal Publishing Co., and President of Korean Picture Book Publishing Association

"K-culture . . . is the result of Korea's long history and tradition. Inspired by a Korean traditional game, one of hottest TV shows was created and appeared in the world. These days, traditional Korean games are receiving worldwide attention and interest. These three picture books contain the methods, values, and importance of traditional Korean games. The playstyle featured here will be an experience for both children and adults who have watched the drama." --Heysuk Yoon, Award-Winning Author and President of Writer's Academy

"The recent big hit TV show on Netflix unexpectedly made a booster for children to know about the traditional game and how fun it [is] to play. This picture book series makes children learn more about indoor and outdoor Korean traditional games and encourage them to . . . play with other kids face-to-face. In the back of the book, you can learn the origins of the traditional game and various ways how to play." --Eunjoo Hwang, Librarian and Administrator of Library Association, Kyyungy Province
