About the Book

This African American children's book is designed to show children that they can be anything they put their minds to and that inspiration can be found in their own home or community. Author Dr. Shanita Brown Aaron brings to life the dreams of one child through a classroom assignment. The main character Morgan cannot decide who to report on for her Black History project. As the reader follows Morgan throughout her week, they learn many Black History facts. The knowledge will inspire your child. They will learn nothing is out of their reach and never to rule out any options. "My Inspiration!" includes an activity for teachers or parents to search within their community for African American success stories. This African American children's book is the perfect addition to your classroom or home library and is for all children. Children are never too young to be encouraged by role models and the trailblazers who set the stage.

About the Author :
Dr. Shanita Brown Aaron is a professor of education devoted to putting books with diverse characters into the hands of all children in schools and homes. Dr. Aaron holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Bachelor of Science in Special Education, Master of Education in Administration and Supervision and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership. With over 20 years of experience in K-12 education as a teacher and principal, she knows the need for building cultural competence in our schools where all students and staff acknowledge and appreciate diversity to deepen the overall learning experience. Children need books that reflect their realities to improve their self-esteem and academic engagement, as well as to learn to be inclusive of others. It is crucial for all children to have books that reflect diverse communities with relatable characters from all cultures and races. Books, where children can see themselves as well as expose them to the values, viewpoints and historical legacies of others, are needed in today's classrooms.
