About the Book

Now part of a hidden community of teens like themselves-hunted by the state and determined to defy its oppression of life, liberty, and the pursuit of being a normal teenager-Wisty and Whit have now established themselves as leaders of the Resistance, willing to sacrifice anything to save kids kidnapped and brutally imprisoned by the New Order. After one of their best friends is executed by the ruthless Leader, the One Who is the One, Wisty and Whit resolve to bring down this evil regime and fight for their parents. But the One has other plans in store for them: he needs Wisty, for she is The One Who Has the Gift. The siblings will have to master their evolving magical powers and risk their lives to find out just what that means.

About the Author :
James Patterson is one of the most popular writers of all time, with more than 375 million copies of his books sold worldwide. He holds the record for most New York Times bestsellers and is the author of the two most popular detective series of the past decade, the Alex Cross novels and the Women's Murder Club. Patterson has won an Edgar Award, the mystery world's highest honor, and his novels Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider were made into feature films. Ned Rust is a former boatyard worker, assistant English teacher, assistant maritime investigator, rock critic, rock photographer, organic chemist, biochemist, pollster, co-author (with James Patterson) of New York Times #1 bestsellers, and he generally at least aspires to be an upstanding suburban New York husband and dad. Also, at one point, he had a job walking John Cheever's dog, Cocoa. Among other places, his writing has appeared in Rolling Stone, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, and The Incredible Sestina Anthology. When he's not busy typing, he enjoys attending track meets, going to ballet recitals, gardening, light carpentry, composting, record shopping, book shopping, record listening, and book reading. He has degrees or at least diplomas from Briarcliff High School, Vassar College and New York University, and has done coursework at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the State University of New York at Albany. Elijah Wood's film credits include Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sin City, The Ice Storm, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, among many others. Wood recently started his own record label, Simian Records, and is an active member and supporter of the Art of Elysium. Spencer Locke has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Without a Trace, Cold Case, Spanglish, Resident Evil: Extinction, and Monster House, for which she received an Annie Award Nomination for voice acting. Peter Giles, a film, television, and voice actor, is best known in the audiobook industry for his superb narration of Michael Connelly's thrillers.

Review :
Dialogue-heavy and action-packed, the writing throughout is inventive and colorfully detailed. Written in a conversational tone by Patterson and co-author Ned Rust, it's as if the reader's craziest best friend was recounting a wildly apocryphal tale. -- "Los Angeles Times" Patterson and Rust send a very powerful message to children to believe in themselves, each other, and their own special talents. The allusions to books, artists, and music are an added bonus. The topics of children vs. adults, violence, magic, music, and romance make this an edgy novel sure to please many readers. -- "VOYA" The action is relentless and there are too many close calls to count in this supernatural suspense thriller... readers are whisked at breakneck speed toward a culmination. -- "School Library Journal"
