About the Book

Set in the midst of the refugee crisis, this timely dark thriller proves "another epitychia (success) in this Greek mystery series" (Kirkus Reviews). While visting the island of Sifnos, Greek American ceramicist Lydia Pappas stumbles upon a child's body in the ruins of an ancient temple. The boy, likely a refugee, has been ritualistically murdered, though the crime scene leaves investigator Yiannis Patronas with few clues. The inhabitants at the refugee camp, mistrustful of the police, are little help either. With a reduced police force due to Greece's financial crisis, Patronas must rely on Papa Michalis, an eccentric Orthodox priest and mystery fiction buff. As multiple suspects come to light, Patronas and Michalis must decide if the killer is a Greek national, foreign migrant, or someone else determined to revive the religious rituals of ancient Greece. "Serafim grounds her tale in Greek history, ancient and present, and provides a brutal and effective resolution to the case that will surprise most readers" (Publishers Weekly).

About the Author :
Leta Serafim graduated from George Washington University in DC with a degree in political science and Russian studies. While in college, Leta worked at the Washington Post, writing obituaries and doing research for the national desk, and later joining the staff of the Los Angeles Times Washington Bureau. Following her marriage to a Greek national, Philip Serafim, Leta moved to Athens. When she moved back to the United States seven years later, she wrote for local papers and the Boston Globe. After her mother began to lose her sight from glaucoma, she began designing and launching multiple media campaigns to increase public awareness of this disease. Leta spends at least one month every year in Greece and has visited over twenty-five islands. The Devil Takes Half is her first novel and the first book in the Greek Islands Mystery series. Coffeetown Press published her work of historical fiction, To Look on Death No More. You can find Leta online at www.letaserafim.com.

Review :
"As with Serafim's previous mysteries, From the Devil's Farm combines a clever mystery, a spectacular setting (the island of Sifnos), and Greek culture with a good dose of humor mixed in. The tale takes readers from the Greek Islands to Athens and Turkey as the solution unfolds. Throw in romance as Patronas finds himself attracted to a pretty, redheaded pottery instructor, and the result is an enormously entertaining story." --Mark Lardas, The Daily News
