Web and Information Security

Web and Information Security consists of a collection of papers written by leading experts in the field that describe state-of-the-art topics pertaining to Web and information systems security. In particular, security for the semantic Web, privacy, security policy management and emerging topics such as secure semantic grids and secure multimedia systems are also discussed. As well as covering basic concepts of Web and information system security, this book provides new insights into the semantic Web field and its related security challenges. Web and Information Security is valuable as a reference book for senior undergraduate or graduate courses in information security which have special focuses on Web security. It is also useful for technologists, researchers, managers and developers who want to know more about emerging security technologies.

About the Author :
Dr. Elena Ferrari is a full professor of Computer Science at the University of Insubria, Como (Italy). From 1998 until January 2001, she has been an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milano (Italy). She received the MS degree in Computer Science from the University of Milano (Italy) in 1992. In 1998, she received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the same university. During summer 1996 she has been a visiting researcher at the Department of Computer Science of George Mason University, Fairfax (Virginia). During summers 1997 and 1998 she has been a visiting researcher at Rutgers University, Newark (New Jersey). Her research activities are related to various aspects of data management systems, including web security, access control and privacy, multimedia databases, and temporal databases. On these topics she has published more than a hundred scientific publications in international journals and conference proceedings. She gave several invited lectures and tutorials in Italian and foreign universities as well as on international conferences and workshops. Dr. Ferrari has served as Program Chair of the 4th ACM Symposium on Access Control Models and Technologies (SACMAT'04), Software Demonstration Chair of the 9th International Conference on Extending Database Technology (EDBT'04), Co-Chair of the first COMPSAC'02 Workshop on Web Security and Semantic Web, the first ECOOP Workshop on XML and Object Technology (XOT 2000), and the first ECOOP Workshop on Object-oriented Databases. She has also served as Program Committee member of several international conferences and workshops. Prof. Ferrari is in the Editorial Board of the VLDB Journal and the International Journal of Information Technology (IJIT). She is a member of the ACM and senior member of IEEE. Bhavani Thuraisingham joined The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in October 2004 as a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Cyber Security Research Center in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. She is an elected Fellow of three professional organizations: the IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) and the BCS (British Computer Society) for her work in data security. She received the IEEE Computer Society’s prestigious 1997 Technical Achievement Award for “outstanding and innovative contributions to secure data management.” Prior to joining UTD, Dr. Thuraisingham was an IPA (Intergovernmental Personnel Act) at the National Science Foundation (NSF) in Arlington VA, from the MITRE Corporation. At NSF she established the Data and Applications Security Program and co-founded the Cyber Trust theme. She worked at MITRE in Bedford, MA between January 1989 and September 2001 first in the Information Security Center and was later a department head in Data and Information Management. Dr. Thuraisingham’s work in information security and information management has resulted in over 80 journal articles, over 200 refereed conference papers and workshops, and three US patents. She is the author of nine books in data management, data mining and data security and has given over 60 keynote addresses. Dr. Thuraisingham was educated in the United Kingdom both at the University of Bristol and at the University of Wales.
