An updated, small format edition of the acclaimed Interior Landmarks- Treasures of New York, this book celebrates the great interiors of New York in a stunning visual presentation of space and intricate detail that captures the rich architectural heritage of the city. The large format Interior Landmarks was the first book to survey the glories of New York's interior landmarks with carefully researched text and splendid new color photography. This updated affordable edition presents the same content, updated with current information about new ownership and uses for some landmarks. Located throughout the five boroughs of the city, the landmarked interiors include banks, theaters, office building lobbies, restaurants, libraries, civic and educational facilities, and more. Some are widely known and celebrated--Radio City Music Hall, the Great Hall at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Grand Central Station--while others, like Loews Paradise Theater and the City Hall subway station, are virtually unknown. Forty-six of the 117 landmarked interiors are presented, with a description of the original construction and architectural style and commentary on exceptional design, materials, and architectural details that warrant preservation. Recent restoration efforts and current use of the buildings are also included, making the book a valuable resource and reference work. About the Author :
Design historian Judith Gura is director of the Design History and Theory Program at the New York School of Interior Design and a contributing editor to Art & Auction magazine. Her previous books include Design After Modernism- Furniture and Interiors 1970-2010; New York Interior Design 1935-1985; and Sourcebook of Scandinavian Furniture- Designs for the 21st Century. Kate Wood is on the faculty of the Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning at Columbia University and a member of the board of advisors of the Historic Districts Council in New York. Larry Lederman is a noted photographer and the author of The Rockefeller Family Gardens- An American Legacy and Magnificent Trees of the New York Botanical Garden.
