About the Book

Case studies are a wonderful way to engage future educators in real-life problem solving. Unlike most textbooks, which give the students information and provide answers for future examinations, case studies are open-ended and require active thinking and learning forcing future educators to think and act like an actual school administrator.

All New Real-Life Case Studies for School Administrators details topics that are paramount in today's schools and provides educators advice in dealing with the issues. The case studies in this book include:
·Pressure caused by the testing requirements of No Child Left Behind
·Difficulties in meeting federal requirements for handicapped children under the pressure of providing the "least restrictive environment"
·The challenge of providing and maintaining effective security plans for school buildings
·Making sense out of contradictory educational research studies
·Establishing priorities when considering the importance of electives and extra curricular activities
·Poor teacher morale as a result of testing pressures

About the Author :
William Hayes has been a high school teacher, assistant principal, high school principal, superintendent of schools, adjunct professor, and for the past nine years has served as chairman of the Teacher Education Division at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York.

Review :
The case studies presented in this book have a uniquely relevant connection to the current daily work of a school administrator. Effective school leadership requires the ability to thoroughly consider various aspects of presenting issues. William Hayes pairs each well-articulated case study with a cogent set of questions challenging the reader to think through a process necessary to frame a solution. Bill Hayes doesn't hold anything back. He places the student right in the middle of predicaments that are so authentic they could have happened in almost any school or district across the country today. Hayes is a superb storyteller. He brings life to each case with depth and detail that leaves little to the imagination. His narrative voice is the voice that could be heard in the administrator's office as the case is being painfully described. Hayes has identified and woven together in each case all of the critical elements that together produce the dilemmas that administrators face in real life. No answers or prescriptions are given, but students are given the opportunity to 'live' the cases in a protective classroom where responses to the dilemmas can be prepared in measured and less emotional environments than those Hayes describes. The book is best suited for aspiring administrators and college professors, though principals and superintendents will enjoy reading some of the case studies presented. In All New Real-Life Case Studies for School Administrators, Bill Hayes…engages the reader with compelling case study after compelling case study dealing with real issues faced by 21st century school administrators! Bill's idea to use case studies is engaging and certainly actively engages you in reflecting and learning!
