About the Book

Designed for every senior in an education program, as well as those who seek to change careers into education, this book is truly the one-stop guide to getting a teaching job. The book takes the reader through the process of reviewing certification requirements and the job market, how to conduct a job search using local and Internet resources, and creating a dynamic cover letter and resume. Worksheets, sample cover letters, and resumes are included. Since one of the newest trends in teacher interviews is the use of behavior-based interviewing (BBI), readers are given sample questions and will learn how to answer questions that require them to share their past knowledge and skills. The materials presented in this book have been researched and hundreds of teacher candidates have used these techniques taught by the author in her classes and seminars.

Table of Contents:
1 Becoming a Teacher 2 Your Job Search 3 The Paperwork 4 The Interviews 5 The Interview Questions and Answers 6 Postinterview Follow-Up and Your Next Career Move 7 Appendix A - Sample Interview Questions by Grade and Subject Area 8 Appendix B - Websites

About the Author :
Mary C. Clement, a former high school foreign language teacher, is a professor of teacher education at Berry College, northwest of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to undergraduate courses in curriculum, methods, and management, she teaches courses for future principals on the hiring, supervision, and induction of new teachers.

Review :
Mary C. Clement has truly written the definitive guide for becoming a teacher and getting the job. Her book covers the process soup-to-nuts and is a valuable resource for high school students, college students, and even mid-career changers. Those who read her book will have an advantage in the job search process and will increase their chances of landing their dream job! This book is another excellent example of the Mary Clement approach to writing. It is easy to read because the flow of the information is logical and well presented. It is almost like Mary Clement is having a one-on one conversation with the reader. In this day of highly technical books using lots of education jargon, it is refreshing to read a book that is so simple and useful. I thoroughly enjoyed Mary's latest edition to educational literature. She is always finding ways to help students find insights and meaning in their learning. This book has the appropriate length, it is presented logically, and it is written in a style that can be digested by the target audience. Candidates looking for work in the education field will benefit greatly by reading and using this book. Quite exhaustive is the best way to explain this book that would be very valuable for any teacher looking for a job. The subjects even include jobs for substitute teachers, teaching in a community college, and in a private school. The book is very practical and the author does not pull any punches including telling you want to say and not to say and what to wear and not wear.
