About the Book

Analysis of the scientific and engineering response to the CAA. The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 require fuel producers to reformulate the chemistry of gasoline in an effort to reduce emissions; The U.S. EPA implemented a two-phase program of ever-more restrictive emission requirements. Phase 1 was enacted in 1995 in a two-part process, the second part of which began in January 1998. Phase II will go into effect in 2000 and will require even lower levels of emissions. .

Table of Contents:
1.Impact of CLean Air Act on Fuel Production and Use 2.The Clean Air-Impact on the Fuels Industry.Background...And the Future? 3.Fuel Reformulation and Emission Abatement in Europe and Japan 4.Oxygenated Fuels to Reduce Ambient Carbon Monoxide Concentrations 5.Impact of Fuel Sulfur and Test Temperature on IM 240 Exhaust Emissions 6.The Role of Fuel Additives in Formulating Clean Transportation Fuels 7.Methanol vs. Ethanol 8.Isobutanol Synthesis from Syngas 9.Dimethyl Carbonate Production for Fuel Additives 10. The Performance of di-t-Butyl PEroxide as Cetane Improver in Diesel Fuels 11.Alkylate: A Key for Cleaner Burning Gasoline 12.Maximizing the FCC's Potential for Rfg Production 13.Studying the Chemistry of the FCCU Regenerator in the Laboratory Under Realistic Conditions 14.Benzene Reduction Using OCTGAIN: A New Way Meet RFG Specifications 15.Mesoporous Molecular Sieve MCM-41 Supported Pt and Pd Catalyst for Low-Temperature Hydrogenation of Aromatics in Distillate Fuels 16.The Analysis of Reformulated Gasolines Using Fast Gas Chromotography/Mass Spectrometry Index
