About the Book

As minimally invasive surgeries for commonly scoped joints increase, the "Visual Arthroscopy Series" led by Dr. James R. Andrews and Dr. Tal S. David will answer the call for all in orthopedic surgery seeking succinct and highly visual books that will provide step-by step-instructions on arthroscopic techniques for the shoulder, knee, and hip. "Arthroscopic Techniques of the Knee: A Visual Guide" by Dr. Thomas J. Gill is unique in its presentation in that it is meant to be used as a 'how-to' technique guide that includes intraoperative photos taken with the arthroscope, detailing and illustrating each step in arthroscopic surgery of the knee from start to finish. Dr. Thomas J. Gill is joined by multiple contributors, each a national leader in his or her area of expertise. As each expert presents his or her experience with each procedure, (and not a review of the current literature), the orthopedist will benefit from the vast experience of this group of experts. Some chapter topics include: Diagnostic Arthroscopy - set-up and instrumentation; Articular Cartilage Resurfacing - microfracture, osteochondral transplantation, autologous chondrocyte implantation; Pediatric Osteochondral Injuries - special issues and techniques; ACL - current topics in both single-and double-bundle reconstruction; and PCL - current topics in both single-and double-bundle transtibial and tibial inlay techniques. Inside you will find: a description of surgical goals; step-by-step 'how-to' and illustrative instructions; and tips and pearls and pitfalls section. With the precise instructions of an illustrative 'how-to' guide, "Arthroscopic Techniques of the Knee: A Visual Guide" is highly organized and easy-to-read resource perfect for orthopedic residents, fellows, and experienced surgeons involved with sports injuries and arthroscopic surgery.

Review :
"The authors have done an admirable job of creating a fundamental book on knee arthroscopy that is a great adjunct to hands-on courses for developing skills and understanding what to look for when performing knee arthroscopy. It is clearly targeted at residents and fellows in training as well as any practitioners who are developing and advancing their arthroscopic techniques of the knee. This book provides a number of valuable pearls that will help me improve the care of my patients." -- Mark R. Hutchinson, MD, University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine, Doody Enterprises, Inc. "The text is organized from the perspective of both pathology and surgical technique, providing excellent insight into the dysfunction and the associated treatment options. The contributing authors concisely illustrate their specific techniques in a step-by-step fashion to provide the reader with a firsthand perspective from the eye of the surgeon. Overall, the book is extremely well organized and comprehensive. Even though the book is designed as a surgical manual for practicing orthopedic surgeons, it can serve as a superb reference for any therapist trying to gain insight into knee dysfunction or arthroscopic techniques utilized to treat knee dysfunction. The major strength of this book is the easy-to-follow nature with the arthroscopic procedures described in detail using both written text and intraoperative photographs. A second strength is the concise manner in which the arthroscopic process is described. Overall, I highly recommend Arthroscopic Techniques of the Knee as an excellent reference manual for therapists wanting to expand their current understanding of arthroscopic techniques utilized in the treatment of common knee dysfunction." -- Michael J. Connors, PT, DPT, MPT, University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, TX, Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy
