About the Book

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one group of people to define who they are, it sometimes has a profound effect upon the rest of us. Such an event happened in a place called Germany, and the results of that event are still having their effect upon the inhabitants of Mother Earth. It is hoped that the war that followed was of sufficient magnitude to insure that such an event will never visit us again. On the other hand, maybe our descendants will look upon World War II and see it only as a prelude to the main event. Maybe? Maybe not. There is always hope. In May of 1939, momentous and catastrophic events were quite distant from the forefront of Lisa Mueller's mind. She was twenty, very beautiful, married to Karl Mueller, and had a two year old daughter by the name of Heidi Marie. She should have been happy, but she was not. Instead, she was depressed. Karl had not been her choice. In fact, she had no say in the matter what-so-ever. She had become a good (which means obedient) Bavarian daughter and did what her papa told her to do. The following excerpt will explain the other reasons for her depression, but the emerging police state bent upon world domination will seemingly take a back seat to the more human side of the Deutschen Volk (German People), and yet the story would not be complete without at least considering why the police state became a police state in the first place. With some exceptions, the story is based in a mansion (referred to only as "The Mansion.") that was located in suburban Munich. The people in this story were quite real to Lisa when she told me the story, but that was 42 years ago and since then, my mind and fertileimagination might have overrode my need to be completely factual. The only names that I can remember are Lisa (The one who told me the story), Gerhardt, and Karl. The rest are the names that came to me and sounded right for the story. I didn't intend to get the names right anyway. I still have a need to protect the innocent - or guilty - whichever the case may be. Without resorting to crass moralization, Lisa did what she did out of a need to survive and protect those that she loved. What the Herr General Gerhatdt von Leitner ends up doing might surprise every one.
