Este ensaio continua o eterno debate respeito � exist�ncia de Deus. O faz desde una perspectiva racionalista, sem menoscabo da f�. Focaliza sua aten��o nos sinais de natureza cosmol�gica e, com menor profundidade e extensividade, nos ontol�gicos y teleol�gicos. Procura a exist�ncia em si de Deus, independentemente da forma como as religi�es o representar, coisa nada f�cil pois significa partir de uma no��o muito abrangente de Deus, no��o que neste trabalho � a de uma entidade espiritual trascendente e imanente ao mesmo tempo, ao mundo. Buscar sua exist�ncia nesta forma implica se elevar sobre as circunst�ncias proprias das organiza��es religiosas, y n�o prestar ouvidos a quem nega sua exist�ncia baseado nos erros destas, degradando assim a idea de Deus. Varios dos argumentos expostos neste livro s�o novas maneiras de expresar velhas ideas em defesa da exist�ncia de Deus. O que se busca � demonstrar de una maneira l�gica -n�o cient�fica nem emp�rica- a sua exist�ncia. O importante � que, ao considerar acumulativamente os sinais de Deus, a gente persuade-se da sua exist�ncia. Ao abordar o cosmol�gico, o primeiro que asoma � consci�ncia � a imposibilidade de explicar a realidade sobre uma base de infinitude, seja de tempo para atr�s ou de causas e efeitos. Perante essa impossibilidade, surge como necessidade a finitude, mas ent�o n�o faltar� quem diga que isto revela incoer�ncia, duplo discurso, e at� falta de honradez inteletual, pois no enquanto se diz que todo tem sua causa, por outro lado se afirma que debe haver algo ao princ�pio do tempo ou da cadeia de causas e efeitos, que n�o a tenha. Mas n�o h� tal incoer�ncia. � que a realidade no pode se explicar sob um formato de infinitude; � necessaria a exist�ncia de algo inicial, incausado, e isso � ja um primeiro sinal da exist�ncia de Deus. Dizer que os padro�es c�smicos surgeram por mera evolu��o e espontaneidade � s� uma afirma��o gratuita, sem explica��o alguma que a sustente. Mais ainda, neste campo sim estamos diante de um duplo discurso, pois por um lado se busca padro�es comunicacionais inteligentemente desenhados provenentes do espa�o profundo (programas SETI), e por outro se rejeita a posibilidade de que os padro�es naturais que se observam na natureza -infinitamente m�s complexos- possan ser desenhados, sendo que os ums e os outros s�o padro�es. O inegable desenho inteligente que h� nos padr�es c�smicos � outro sinal da exist�ncia de um Desenhador.Por otro lado, a Teor�a Cu�ntica, com suas m�ltiples historias, seu princ�pio de incertidumbre, a ubiq�idade das part�culas, e a posibilidade de que a realidade seja determinada pela mirada do observador, apunta para uma maior necessidade de um desenho inteligente, pois mostra-os uma realidade muito mais complexa do que imaginamos, e � de sentido comum supor que � maior complexidade, menor posibilidade existe de que as coisas hajan ocorrido por puro azar e espontaneidade. Hume diz que o princ�pio de causalidade s� pode ter valor respeito aos objetos dos quais temos impres�es, issto �, respeito ao passado; dos fen�menos que pudessen ocorrer no futuro n�o temos nemhuma impres�o, e por tanto a eles n�o lhes � aplicable o princ�pio de causalidade. Empirismo extremo. A observa��o de que todo tem sua causa � uma experi�ncia de vida que se cumpre sempre, e por isso faz sentido pensar que os objetos dos que no futuro chegar-mos a ter impres�es tamb�m ter�o una causa. Outros sinais s�o as cinco v�as tomistas: a quarta (hierarqu�a dos valores) e a quinta (finalidade de origem ex�gena), supoem a no��o de Deus gravada na alma humana. Calvino a chamou de sensus divinitatis, e significa que temos, em qualidade de instinto natural, consci�ncia da divinidade, conhecimento natural, direto e genuino de que Deus existe.
