Tal como su nombre lo indica, la Eneada I de Plotino, en su tratado 6, representa la reflexion sobre la belleza. Sin embargo, los traductores nos diran que refleja, mas alla de un tratado sobre la belleza misma, un entramado de metafisica y mistica; de modo que al plantearse el problema de la belleza infiere la identificacion con la forma, mientras que la belleza del alma se identifica con una forma trascendente, semejante a la del fuego, pero al mismo tiempo secundaria, en cambio la de la Inteligencia, con la Forma trascendente y primaria; por ello el Bien como principio de forma, es tambien principio de belleza, aunque no sea este la Belleza. Pero como es que llega Plotino a estas conclusiones? En primer lugar afirma que -la belleza se da principalmente en el ambito de la vista (...) el oido (...) y la musica-. Sin embargo mas alla de esta -percepcion sensible-, encontramos la belleza de las ciencias, de las acciones, de los habitos, etc., pertenecientes de hecho a la gradualidad de la belleza del alma. Causa de que se diga que hay cosas bellas por participacion, mientras que otras los son en si mismas. Con base en la denominacion popular, Plotino afirma que la belleza es -la proporcion de unas partes con otras y con el conjunto, a una con el buen colorido anadido (...) en estar bien proporcionadas y medidas-. Pero si siguieramos esta definicion, -nada simple seria bello-, es decir -sera bello el conjunto, mientras que las partes no estaran dotadas de belleza por si mismas. Y sin embargo, si el conjunto es bello, tambien las partes deben ser bellas...- por lo que se clasifica como falso a este razonamiento. En cambio si partimos de que es algo que se reconoce a primera vista y que el alma comprende, acoge y se ajusta a ello, nos damos cuenta de la veracidad de esta premisa ya que, el alma, al proceder de la Esencia misma, cuando se topa con algo que participa de su misma procedencia, entonces juzga como bello al objeto reconocido. Es entonces bello en cuanto que participa de una forma que -compone y coordina lo que va a ser algo compuesto por muchos-. Asi al darle forma se unifica y al unificarse la belleza se impregna en cada una de las partes y en el todo. Si hablamos entonces de -las bellezas ulteriores-, no es la percepcion sensible quien trabaja sino el alma quien las ve y las enjuicia. A ello se llega mediante la contemplacion que provoca tales emociones que llevan a acoger la belleza y por tanto a poder manifestarla, es decir, siendo comunmente mezclada el alma con la percepcion, la primera debera liberarse de la segunda, de modo que el alma se haga bella a ella misma quitando lo que le es ajeno, permaneciendo asi pura, obteniendo su forma original, integrandose a lo divino. Y siendo solo alma se asemeja a Dios, porque de El nace la belleza. Y es que es en Dios donde belleza y bondad son uno solo. -Y es del Bien de donde surge la Inteligencia, que hace bella al Alma, y el resto de las cosas son bellas por obra del Alma-, porque al ser el Alma algo divino y naciente de lo Bello, -cuantas cosas toca y somete las hace bellas en la medida en que son capaces de participar-. En conclusion, todas las bellezas sobrevienen y proceden de aquel. Pero si alguien logra ver la -Belleza imponente-, no tendra necesidad de las otras. A esta contemplacion se llega acostumbrando al alma a mirar por si misma, pasando gradualmente de las cosas bellas al alma del que hace las cosas bellas, a fin de pasar a la observacion de la belleza personal; una vez ahi, confia en si mismo para llegar a la contemplacion de la gran Belleza. Es un recorrido en el cual el alma se contempla bella para ver la Belleza. Quien llegue a esto podra decir que la belleza se encuentra en las Ideas a las que se llega por la inteligencia.
