About the Book

I'd like to add that Filey is nothing like Scarborough or Bridlington - be prepared to be surprised. I mean that genuinely! In this the fifth in "The Town In A Day" series that there's an awful lot more to Filey than meets the eye! And that's apart from a haunted Butlin's, parkin eating dragons, sea monsters and vicious murders! If you've visited Scarborough or Bridlington then you probably think you've got a decent idea of what the Yorkshire coast is about. Think again! Possessing an unusual history going back at least until the Roman occupation, Filey poses some interesting questions. Was Filey a major Roman settlement? Can you think of another town that has a hole in its history between the time of The Black Death and the 1820's? Were there two Filey's? The author truly can't answer these questions because Filey is as enigmatic as its wave and weather sculpted clay cliffs. A great deal of old Filey and its past has been lost to the North Sea. However, it is undoubtedly a place that has the power to really kick start one's imagination. Good humored and informative, "Filey - The Town In A Day" will introduce you to a wonderfully preserved Victorian seaside resort possessed of more than a few surprises up its sleeve.

About the Author :
James J. Browne has managed to survive for 54 years whilst having had many diverse and not necessarily interesting occupations. A graduate in Art History and trained EFL teacher he has been, prior to leaving Blighty, a professional musician, a tour guide, road sweeper, recycling operative, telephone fortune teller, insulation installation operative, light bulb packer, antique dealer, waiter, sea shell salesman and barman to name a few. He is liked by his close friends despite being permanently broke. Like most sane people, despite not being entirely sane himself, James seeks to escape the rat race. However, he generally finds it tends to follow him around no matter where he goes.
