About the Book

Flashback: The looting of Greece over the last 60 years... in 365 days 2015 was perhaps the most crucial year in modern Greek history. Through this book it becomes even more important; opening a window into the past, and a framework for understanding the future. Each chapter corresponds to one day and one event in 2015. Every event is traced back to its roots, that is, to events that may have occurred as long as 60 years ago. These events, whether political, economic, or social, vindicate the Greek people's disappointment in the old political system and their decision to support the first left-wing government since the dictatorship, which, nevertheless, brought them new difficulties. The journey trough time is instantaneous. The reader finds themselves simultaneously in the present and in the past. By the end of the day, they have gained the experience of history. To read the book is to complete a great puzzle where each piece is a fragment of the history of this country. The pieces of the puzzle become a framework, the big picture explaining much of what is happening today, and especially what is to come, since, as the writer repeatedly notes, paraphrasing Marx's dictum that "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce," in this country "History repeats itself as tragicomedy." This account by journalist Dimitris Stergiou is a time machine giving you insight into the past. Point of departure: 2015. Enjoy your reading!

About the Author :
Dimitris L. Stergiou is a journalist, born in Palaiomanina, Aitoloakarnania, to parents who worked as farmers. He completed his primary education at the Palaiomanina Elementary School and his secondary education at the Palamaiki School of Iera Polis in Mesologgi. As a top high-school student, he quickly became the flag bearer of his institution. In 1961, he graduated as the first in his high-school class and continued his university studies (in politics, economics and, later, philosophy) in Athens, on a scholarship. From 1966 to 1970, he was a member of the Editorial Board of the magazine "Trapeziki Oikonomotechniki Epitheorisis" (Bank Logistics Review) and an analyst at the homonymous "Oikonomotechniko Kentro" (Logistics Centre). At the beginning of 1970, he was hired at Lampraki Publishing Group as an editor of "Oikonomikos Tachydromos" (Financial Courier) and the newspapers "Vima" and "Nea." In 1979, he became the Chief Editor and, later, Editorial Director of "Oikonomikos Tachydromos." He was a member, columnist and analyst at the newspapers "Nea," "Vima" and "Sunday Vima" until 2001. In 2001, he was transferred to "Sunday Eleftheros Typos," initially as a publishing consultant and editorial director, and later as a manager. He left his position at "Sunday Eleftheros Typos" in October 2003 and was transferred to "Apogevmatini" as Editorial Director. Since his retirement, he has been involved with the publishing house Stergiou Limited in the UK, and has authored a variety of books. In 1997, along with many of his fellow villagers, he cofounded the cultural society "Society of Friends of the Palaiomanina Monuments," in order to preserve, highlight and capitalise on the rich cultural heritage and tradition of his village. So far, the results have been promising. He is also a member of the Athens Union of Journalists in Daily Newspapers. He is married to Nota and has four children, Leonidas, Nikos, Eleni and Artemis - Eleutheria, as well as two grandchildren, Nota - Theodora and Christina - Konstantina. He has received multiple awards from various bodies and organisations, and he has authored numerous books.
