Try This Classroom Management System: Try This ABC Practice All Behaviors can Change

I've heard it said that temperaments are not hereditary, but I beg to differ. At the age of seventeen and eleven months I got married and threw my first temper tantrum. Behaviors are unique to each child, and their personality exemplifies individual behavioral traits. Their unique behavior and personality draw me to work with these precious children. Without adequate coping skills, children are medicated or must figure out how to navigate their behavior issues alone. In my opinion for some children, medication helped them focus or calm that raging storm inside of them, but for others medication just became a quick fix for their behavioral issues. I understand these children because I also carried similar traits of stubbornness, defiance, tantrums and rage. In my experience I was held unaccountable for my behavior, I was provided an excuse for my outburst, and all that accomplished was giving me permission to have a reason for my issue. The difference for me came when I found the tools I needed to adjust my behavioral thermometer from hot temper explosions to a chilled out setting. I know there is hope for each child because when I say, "I understand" what I am saying is: I was that child!

Born April 2, 1960 and raised in Texas by my parents. My dad was born on April Fools day and loved to pull pranks on others, so I inherited some of his traits, but I also inherited some of his temperament. My mom has a servants heart always serving those in need. She is creative, caring and loves helping the kids that were struggling with life issues. Sometimes our home would consist of a few cousins that would live with us temporarily because their home life wasn't the best. I acquired her traits, but I also inherited some of her temperament. My parents stayed together for 59 years just one month short of their 60th wedding anniversary, before the Lord called my daddy to the other side. I know they loved each other, sad thing is I didn't get to witness that love growing up. Growing up my life would consist of fear, fear of the angry cursing words I would hear, fear of the word divorce, and the worry of what would happen it that became real, fear when things were thrown across the room, fear of dinners that were rarely peaceful and the fear of Christmas's to come after my dad came home drunk once and climbed our Christmas Tree causing it and him to fall to the ground. Although, they say temperaments are not hereditary I beg to differ. I was seventeen and eleven months when I married and threw my first temper tantrum. I remember sitting down in the middle of my floor crying because I remember the fear I had as a little girl and I didn't want to continue that pattern into my children's world. It is true you live what you learn and only patterns can be broken when you seek change. I was that child!
