About the Book

Looking for a convenient language course that fits your lifestyle and gets you speaking the basics of a new language in a matter of hours? The acclaimed audio-led Michel Thomas Method, endorsed by celebrities, executives and learners worldwide, will deliver the results you want. Foundation Irish is about getting Irish in your head instantly, getting you to speak fluidly, with all the punch and vigour of a native speaker, as soon as your first few words. How does it work? During the course, you will join Michel Thomas Method native speaker teachers, Patricia Mac Eoin and Eilis Ni Dhuill, and two students in a live lesson, learning from both their successes and their mistakes to keep you motivated and involved throughout the course. You, as the learner, become the third student and participate actively in the class. The Michel Thomas Method works by breaking a language down into its component parts and enabling you to reconstruct the language yourself. Within the very first hour you will be able to construct simple phrases by listening and thinking out answers for yourself without the pressure of writing or memorizing. You learn through your own language, so there's no stress, and no anxiety. You'll stick with it because you'll love it. Why is the method so successful? The Michel Thomas Method was perfected over 50 years by celebrated psychologist and linguist Michel Thomas. This unique method works with your brain and draws on the principles of instructional psychology. Knowledge is structured and organised so that you assimilate the language easily and don't forget it. The method breaks down the language into building blocks that are introduced sequentially in such a way that you create your response and move on to ever-more-complex sentences. There is no need to stop for homework, additional exercises or vocabulary memorization, so you progress rapidly. What's in the Course? Foundation Irish with the Michel Thomas Method includes up to 8 hours of audio on CD. You will learn at your own pace, pausing and repeating where necessary, and complete the course in about 20-30 hours. *Note that the first hour of this course is the same as the Start Irish 'taster' course. Learn anywhere Don't be tied to chunky books or your computer, Michel Thomas Method audio courses let you learn whenever you want: at the gym, during your commute, in the shower or on the move...

About the Author :
Patricia Mac Eoin (Author) Patricia Mac Eoin is a lawyer and accredited translator who has spent a number of years working in the EU Commission in Brussels as an Irish language translator. She now lives in Galway, on the west coast of Ireland, where she continues to do both legal and translation work. She also runs the online business www.allaboutirish.ie. She has written her own series of children's books in Irish, and translated many children's books from English and French to Irish. She loves learning and teaching languages, and also speaks French, and basic Spanish and German. She particularly loves to explain the distinctive features of Irish to those who have no previous experience of learning a Celtic language, and enjoys seeing students discover the richness of the Irish language. Eilis Ni Dhuill (Author) Eilis Ni Dhuill worked for TG4, the Irish language television broadcaster, as editor and director of Cula4, an Irish language programming block for children. She then returned to the world of academia to undertake a Master's Degree in Irish Studies before completing a PhD in Modern Irish. Eilis's doctoral research involved working closely with the Irish speaking community of Corca Dhuibhne on the Dingle peninsula in West Kerry. During her Master's and PhD studies Eilis continued to teach Irish and to lecture in the Irish and Education departments at the National University of Ireland, Galway, where she continues to work today. She is currently involved in an Irish language media audience research project. She has also lectured in Gaelic literature at the Welsh and Celtic Studies Department, Aberystwyth University, Wales. She has been involved in the development, modernisation and delivery of a number of undergraduate and postgraduate Irish language modules and is dedicated to promoting the Irish language and culture. Michel Thomas (Author) Michel Thomas (1914-2005) had an amazing life. Born in Poland, he spent his early years in Germany and then in France, where he studied psychology at the Sorbonne in Paris. When war broke out, he fought with the Resistance and suffered imprisonment in labour camps. At the end of the war he joined the US liberation army and later settled in the US where he established his world-famous language school. Languages, being his strength and passion became the focus of the next 50 years of his life that he spent developing a method that he hoped would change the way we teach and learn - so that everyone could succeed. He developed this method 'that works with the brain'. After creating several courses of his own, he passed on his method so that other teachers might use it too.

Review :
"A great way to learn; it's fast and it lasts". - The Daily Telegraph Five minutes into the first CD, you already feel like you're winning. - Time Out Michel Thomas is a precious find indeed. - The Guardian Thomas makes it simple - Sunday Times Michel's methods will teach you effectively and easily - Daily Star Hugely inspiring - Red Ideal for any business traveller who needs to be able to get around confidently. - Sunday Business "Moving along at a relaxed, slow pace, punctuated by amusing anecdotes and jokes from the teacher, the new words, phrases and language rules are gently introduced and reinforced through subtle repetition without ever being tedious. In fact, despite a distinct emphasis on non-work, the course proves very effective and enjoyable, and its format is ideal for learning anywhere you like. So, if you only want to learn to speak the language, this course is highly recommended." - Top Real Travel Product, Real Travel
