About the Book

Leslie Charteris’ square-jawed, blue-eyed hero loved, fought and stole his way through Europe from the 1930s to the 1970s, endlessly pursuing blondes, baddies and boodle. Adored by women and feared by his foes, he was renowned for both his heroic exploits and his nefarious reputation - and he always left his trademark calling card at the scenes of his crimes: a sketch of a stick figure with a halo. This collection includes three classic cases: In The Saint Closes the Case, The Saint is confronted by arch-villain and armaments dealer Dr Rayt Marius as he enters into a deadly struggle to save the world from a dastardly new weapon…. In Saint Overboard, a villain plans to steal a shipment of sunken treasure. Simon Templar will go to any lengths to stop him - even under the sea. The Saint Plays with Fire sees our hero investigating a country house fire - and uncovering a Fascist conspiracy to seize power in France. Starring Paul Rhys as Simon Templar, and also featuring Patsy Kensit and Fiona Fullerton, this thrilling drama has all the verve and excitement of the original story. It is dramatised by Roger Danes and directed by Matthew Walters.

About the Author :
Leslie Charteris was born Leslie Charles Bowyer-Yin in Singapore in 1907. After a time working in such exotic professions as gold prospector and pearl fisherman, he turned to writing. He changed his name to Leslie Charteris in 1926, and the first 'Saint' adventure, Meet - The Tiger!, was published in 1928. He went on to write another 50 books in English starring The Saint (some of which were collaborations with other writers), and a further 40 in French, before his death in 1993. Many adaptations were made of these books for film, TV and radio, and The Saint has been played by various actors including George Sanders, Val Kilmer, Ian Ogilvy, Roger Moore and Vincent Price. The character remains enduringly popular - in 2013-2014 Hodder & Stoughton published a series of 35 'Saint' books in print and ebook format, and a new ITV drama is planned to go into production in 2016.
