About the Book

This book takes readers on a fascinating journey through various mathematical concepts, including geometry, calculus, probability, and topics that students have never seen in the classroom. Unlike traditional textbooks that focus on "how" to solve problems, this book challenges readers to think deeply about the "why" and "why not" of math concepts. It is accessible, enjoyable, and engaging. Featuring relatable student characters engaging in conversations about math, this book brings complex topics to life. Through interesting stories and real-world problems, readers will learn about the best ways to approach and solve mathematical challenges.Whether you're a college student, a pre-college student, or simply someone who loves math, this book is a fun and engaging read that will take you on a mathematical adventure. As Albert Einstein once said, "Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think." This book achieves this goal by training readers to think mathematically, while enjoying the journey.

About the Author :
Lide Li earned a PhD in mathematics from the University of Arkansas and a PhD in computer science from the University of Chicago. He has worked as a research analyst at Lehman Brothers and as a technical fellow at Exelon Corporation. His research interests include abstract algebra, theoretical computer science, econometrics, and mathematical finance. He has developed and led various mathematical models in the financial and energy industries.

Review :
'Li masterfully covers a wide range of mathematical topics including limits, sequences, series, problem-solving strategies, differentiation, integration, and probability. He skillfully introduces each chapter with a story or conversation, followed by a technical but easily readable overview of the area. This book is ideal for college and advanced high school students interested in mathematics. I wholeheartedly recommend 'Math Outside the Classroom' as a valuable and enriching read that effectively bridges the gap between mathematical theory and its real-world relevance.'Lance Fortnow Dean of the College of Computing, Illinois Institute of Technology, USA, Author of The Golden Ticket: P, NP, and the Search for the Impossible
