About the Book

Building accurate algorithms for the optimization of picking orders is a difficult task, especially when one considers the delays of real-world situations. In warehouse environments, diverse algorithms must be developed to enhance the global performance relating to combining customer orders into picking orders to reduce wait times. The Handbook of Research on Metaheuristics for Order Picking Optimization in Warehouses to Smart Cities is a pivotal reference source that addresses strategies for developing able algorithms in order to build better picking orders and the impact of these strategies on the picking systems in which diverse algorithms are implemented. While highlighting topics such ABC optimization, environmental intelligence, and order batching, this publication examines common picking aspects in warehouse environments ranging from manual order picking systems to automated retrieval systems. This book is intended for researchers, teachers, engineers, managers, and practitioners seeking research on algorithms to enhance the order picking performance.

About the Author :
Alberto Ochoa Ortiz-Zezzatti (Bs'94-Eng.Master'00, PhD'04-Postdoctoral Researcher'06, Industrial Postdoctoral Research'09 & Energy Studies Postdoctoral Research'18). He joined the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez in June 2008. He has written scientific articles in 17 languages. It has 14 books, 87 chapters of books related to AI and more than 927 articles related mainly to logistics for Smart Cities and Social Modeling using different techniques of artificial intelligence. He has directed 47 doctoral theses, 49 master's theses and 56 Bachelor's degrees. Participate in the organization of several international conferences. He has reviewed several specialized journals, including two important journals of Elsevier Applied: Soft Computing and Computer on Human Behavior -where he has evaluated different researches related to Applied Artificial Intelligence-. His research interests include ubiquitous computing, evolutionary computation, natural language processing, social models for a Smart City, anthropometric characterization and social data mining. He has served as coordinator of the agreements related to research funds in Europe and Associations of Latin America. During seven weeks in the summer of 2016 I made a stay at the Super Computing Center in Catalonia. And in January 2018 I ended a sabbatical stay of 67 weeks in the INEEL (National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energies) -With a research project focused on optimizing Smart Logistics processes in a Smart City-, where I work different projects related to social networks including the analysis of narcomantas in the state of Morelos and their implications in social networks. Since 2017 he participates in the NAB of the Doctorate in Technology (PNPC) of the UACJ. During June of 2018 he is attending for the XVII occasion students of the Scientific Summer. During 2018, I perform together with students of the Video Game Programming (DDMI) Serious Games for the improvement of Environmental Education in a Smart City. Since April 2018, he is participating in a project for learning Arabic as a cultural bulwark in Lebanese, Palestinian and Syrian communities in the state of Nuevo León (2018-2020). He currently has a social services and inquiry project related to intelligent applications to help children with some type of disability using a Humanoid Nao Robot (August 2017 to date). Since September 2016, he has the SNI Level 2 distinction. He is currently developing a project related to the reduction of road accidents using Italian Scooters, by designing an optimal and ideal helmet for this and improving life in a Smart City, in the Framework of a project with the European Union until 2027, starting in January 2018. As of November 2018, it is developing a PEI State project (Chihuahua) associated with a Serious Game focused on improving empathy in children with Asperger's Syndrome. Gilberto Rivera received his Ph.D. in Computer Science (in 2015) from the Tecnológico Nacional de México (National Institute of Technology of Mexico). The Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (SMIA) recognized his doctoral research as the best one of the Ph.D. dissertations on Artificial Intelligence in 2015. He is currently a full-time professor of Computer Engineering at the Universidad Autónoma of Ciudad Juárez. Besides, he is a member of the Mexican National System of Researchers (SNI) since 2016. His primary interests are in the areas of multi-criteria optimization, applied soft computing, logistics, and swarm intelligence. Claudia Gómez-Santillán is a full-time professor at Technological Institute of Ciudad Madero. She received the Ph.D degree in Advanced Technology from National Polytechnic Institute (Mexico), in 2009. She received the M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Leon Institute of Technology (Mexico), in 2000. Her research interests includes: (a) optimization techniques (Metaheuristics), (b) analysis and design of approximation algorithms, (c) Logistics, decision Support and complex Systems.
