Irene Nemirovsky, Irina Leonidovna Nemirovskaia), nee le 24 fevrier (11 fevrier) 1903 a Kiev (Empire russe), morte le 17 aout 1942 a Auschwitz (Reich allemand, aujourd'hui en Pologne), est une romanciere russe d'origine ukrainienne et de langue francaise. Elle est le seul ecrivain a avoir recu le prix Renaudot a titre posthume, en 2004, pour son roman Suite francaise. Biographie Enfance et exil Fille d'un riche banquier juif d'Odessa, Leonid Borissovitch Nemirovsky (1868-1932), et de Fanny Nemirovsky (1887-1989), Irina Nemirovsky est elevee par deux gouvernantes, sa mere ne s'etant jamais interessee a elle: une Francaise, Mlle Rose qui fait du francais sa deuxieme langue maternelle, et aussi une Anglaise Miss Matthiew. Irina parle ainsi le russe, le francais et l'anglais. La famille vit a Kiev et echappe aux pogroms contre les juifs qui secouent la ville du 18 au 20 octobre 1905 et de nouveau en 1912. En 1914, les Nemirovsky s'installent a Saint-Petersbourg, alors capitale de l'Empire tsariste ou Leonid devient un banquier influent. En janvier 1918, la famille fuit la revolution en passant la frontiere finlandaise en traineau (au village de Mus-tamaki pres de Tallin), puis va se refugier en Finlande a Helsingfors (Helsinki) en avril pour echapper a la Guerre civile russe puis la Guerre civile finlandaise. Installation en France En juillet 1919, la famille arrive en France apres un court sejour a Stockholm et une traversee mouvementee en bateau jusqu'a Rouen. La famille s'installe a Paris, d'abord au 115, rue de la Pompe dans le XVIe arrondissement. Une gouvernante anglaise, Mrs Matthews, est alors chargee de l'education de la jeune fille. Irene passe le baccalaureat en 1919. Resume Qu'est-ce qui peut attirer la belle et sage Therese vers Bernard, ce rebelle un peu voyou, qui s'engage a dix-huit ans des que la guerre eclate ? A son retour, en 1918, avide de vivre cette jeunesse qui lui a echappe, il prend gout a l'argent facile. De cette passion ne peuvent naitre que deceptions et souffrances. Mais ils s'aiment et, lorsque Bernard, prisonnier pendant la Seconde Guerre, est libere, Therese est la, qui l'attend. Parue en 1948, six ans apres la disparition d'Irene Nemirovsky - couronnee a titre posthume par le prix Renaudot 2004 pour Suite francaise -, cette fresque romanesque, habitee par le climat fievreux et deletere de l'entre-deux-guerres, est tout autant une peinture cruelle de la bourgeoisie conventionnelle et hypocrite que le portrait plus intime d'etres en quete d'une impossible liberte."
