About the Book

Newly widowed Francesca Canelli is not your typical soccer mom but she would do anything to help her 15-year-old son, Matt, a passionate soccer player determined to honor his dad's memory. Financially strapped and emotionally devastated, Francesca accepts a sexual proposition from the coach of Pegasi United who promised to secure Matt a starting position on his premier St. Louis team. Their bargain quickly sours when the coach abuses Francesca, demeans Matt, and threatens to renege on the deal. The coach with more enemies than friends soon winds up dead, his battered and naked body hanging from the crossbar of a soccer goalpost. In the ensuing investigation Francesca becomes the prime suspect. Now she's playing games with a team of hard-nosed detectives, her vulnerability fading as she fights to keep not only herself out of jail but Matt too. Then Francesca discovers she's not the only person who really knows what happened that night the coach died. She has no choice but to strike a new bargain; but will this one resolve her growing problems?

About the Author :
Loretta Giacoletto has been named a finalist in the 2015 and 2014 "Soon to be Famous Illinois Author Project." She divides her time between the St. Louis Metropolitan area of Southern Illinois and Missouri's Lake of the Ozarks where she writes fiction, essays, and her blog Loretta on Life while her husband cruises the waters for bass and crappie. Their five children have left the once chaotic nest but occasionally return for her to-die-for ravioli and roasted peppers topped with garlic-laden bagna cauda. An avid traveler, Loretta has visited countries in Europe and Asia but Italy remains her favorite, especially the area from where her family originates: the Piedmont region near the Italian alps. Her novels focus on characters caught up in problems of their own doing, crime often laced with romance that may not end happily-ever-after. FAMILY DECEPTIONS presents two generations of earthy characters who learn to thrive and/or survive through a series of misdeeds. THE FAMILY ANGEL is a saga about the Americanization of an Italian family of bootleggers, coalminers, winemakers and priests, and a mysterious black angel who sticks his nose in the family business. CHICAGO'S HEADMISTRESS, a prequel and partial parallel to THE FAMILY ANGEL, follows a 1905 Italian street urchin's notorious rise to wealth and power as the headmistress of Night School, Chicago's most infamous men's club in the 1920s. ITALY TO DIE FOR, from her Savino Sisters Mystery Series, shows how too much togetherness can spell disaster for two thirty-something sisters vacationing in Italy. In REGRETS TO DIE FOR, BOOK 2 of the series, the sisters trace their roots to the Italian alpine village of their grandmother and learn why a teenage romance and three mysterious deaths during WWII resulted in her immigrating to America after the war. In LETHAL PLAY a grieving widow is suspected of killing her son's coach, a man with more enemies than friends. FREE DANNER features a cynical young man whose troubled past and deadly encounters hinder his search for the father he has yet to meet. A COLLECTION OF GIVERS AND TAKERS is an anthology of twisted stories about the good, the bad, the self-centered and the disillusioned. Loretta's short stories have appeared in a number of publications including Literary Mama, which nominated her story "Tom" for Dzanc's 2010 Best of The Web."
