About the Book

Cracker 929 is the call sign for this plane, a KC-97 flying for the Strategic Air Command stationed in Savannah, Georgia, in 1960. Taylor Young joined the Air Force and after training, became a Crew Chief on this plane for in-flight refueling of B-52's and B-47's. Taylor joined the service for all the right reasons. He wanted to do his part to keep his country safe like his father had in WWII. He wanted to let the service make a man out of him and to give him training that would lead to a career after leaving the service. The Air Force did all that and more. He was a young man that had been an adult all his life to help his mother raise three boys alone. He was the oldest of the three. He knew what work was for he had been working at something since he was 11 years old. He knew what responsibility was because he was always responsible for his brothers. He knew what discipline was because his mother made sure of that. Taylor was a dreamer, a romantic, and he knew what he wanted. He was following a plan of his and it proved to be a great plan. He wanted to work on planes. He wanted to travel, and he knew what he wanted out of life at the right time. He knew what he wanted in a wife and the mother of his children one day. He wanted a career and he dreamed of one day earning enough to drive a Cadallic. He wanted to one day go back to school and get his 4 year degree. He wanted an opportunity and a chance to prove himself. He wanted to be able to provide for his future family to allow his wife to be a stay at home mom and not have to work. The rewards of his four years in the Air Force became the foundation he needed to achieve all these things and he did. Come fly with Taylor into his adventures and excitement. Ride with him flying in circles with the right wing tip pointed at the ground because of a run away propeller. Ride with him refueling B-47's and B-52's. Ride with him taking off and landing on snow covered runways. Come fly with Taylor into the Azores in Portugal during the Cuban Crisis. Come and meet the women in his life. Ride with him during his dirt track racing days. Come and meet the new friends Taylor made that became lifelong friends to this day. Read a great story about a boy leaving the nest to be on his on. This book will make you admire him and wish him a great future. If you ever wondered what a young man joining the service goes through and how he handles that. This is the book for you. If you have a son or daughter thinking of going into the service. This is the book for you and them to read. Follow Taylor young as he grows up in the next two years. Listen to his way of thinking. This book covers the first two years Taylor Young was in the Air Force. You will see the beginning of his adventures of his last two years in the Air Force that is detailed in another book called RED BULL. Red Bull is the call sign of Taylor's plane flying out of Japan and the Philippines
