About the Book

In her post prison life, Stella Gale, a tough, charismatic and paradoxical ex-madam from Georgia, has become a renowned Rare Breed dog breeder (Dogue de Bordeaux). In her world people not only keep secrets from each other, but also from themselves. Bobby Kansas, Stella's husband, has no memory of the first ten years of his life and he doesn't know why--Stella does, but she's not telling. Annie Evans moves in with Stella and Bobby at age seventeen, but how she came to meet Stella is not what she believes. When the web of secrets that held them together unravels, each must choose a course of action. Interspersed throughout are the hilarious antics of individuals in the Rare Breed dog world, sparring for ribbons in the ring and clawing for power and recognition. Then there are the few who want to bring Stella to her knees, with good reason. The dogs of Galestorm Kennel--Big Bertha, Amazing Grace, Ivan the Terrible, and Oz--have a compelling role in the unfolding of this human drama. This novel is bold, rowdy, gritty, and irreverent. The author grapples masterfully with the devastating, and often insurmountable, broad impact of unforgivable acts. In the end, none of us is innocent.

About the Author :
Nancy Kyle Kent received her B.A. in English in 1979 from Arcadia University. She pursued graduate studies in literature at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She lived in Tanzania as a child, traveled and worked within other cultures as an adult, and is a former world-class marathon runner. She has worked professionally for the past 35 years with people who have experienced physical and/or emotional trauma. In 1992 she fell in love with the powerful and loyal Dogue de Bordeaux and went on to breed an International Champion. What compels her to write is an unremitting desire to give creative voice to the traumatic, the hilarious, the malevolent, and the munificent.
