About the Book

Anna, gets a pony for her eighth birthday. She is very excited and is looking forward to school the next day to tell her friends about her birthday surprise. She hopes her friends will be happy for her, but wonders if they will be jealous instead. They have all been riding borrowed ponies for some time and Anna is the first of them to get her own pony. The pony is young and inexperienced and Anna's mother feels they would have been better off buying Anna an older, quieter pony for her first horse. Her misgivings are proved correct when Anna has a serious accident with the pony and her mother wants to sell him. Anna is devastated, and fights with her mother to keep the pony. Will the pony get to stay? Will Anna's mother remain resolute in her decision to sell him? What will happen to the little pony that Anna has come to love so quickly, who has also become very attached to her? The first book in a series about a pony called handy will excite and delight young girls all over the world who will also dream of having their own pony just like Handy.

About the Author :
Born and raised in the small town of Tocumwal in NSW, Cindy is the oldest of three. Being the only girl, and horse mad meant she soon got her own pony which she called Handy. As she grew up she turned to thoroughbreds and show riding, eventually becoming one of Australia's first female jockeys. After injuring herself in a track fall she sadly gave up her riding career but never lost her love of horses or books about horses and ponies. Cindy loves travelling and has done so extensively around Australia. She has also travelled throughout New Zealand, and Europe. These experiences along with her childhood memories of Handy, are her inspiration in creating a series of books for young girls about horses. She lives in Melbourne, Australia with her husband Bernie and son Ben. They regularly visit their "holiday cottage" in Tocumwal, and use it to escape from the noise and congestion of the city whilst also visiting Cindy's parents who still live there.
