About the Book

Driving home from a dinner party in the village of Sumpton Harcourt, Rory and Molly Harris, the new vicar and his wife, strain to see the road ahead--and then suddenly brake, screeching to a halt. Right in front of them, aglow in the headlights, a body hangs from a gnarled tree at the edge of town. An elderly spinster has been murdered--and the villagers are bewildered as to who would commit such a crime. Agatha Raisin rises to the occasion, a little glad for the excitement, to tell the truth, after a long run of lost cats and divorces on the books. But when two more murders follow the first, Agatha begins to fear for her reputation--and even her life. The village is a small and very private place, she finds. It even has its own coven of witches.

About the Author :
M. C. Beaton, hailed as the "Queen of Crime" by the Globe and Mail, was the author of the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Agatha Raisin novels--the basis for the hit series on Acorn TV and public television--as well as the Hamish Macbeth series and the Edwardian Murder Mysteries featuring Lady Rose Summer. Born in Scotland, Beaton started her career writing historical romances under several pseudonyms. She passed away in 2019. An AudioFile Earphones Award winner, Alison Larkin is a classically trained actress who has appeared on Broadway with the Royal National Theatre and Off-Broadway with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Her unusually wide range of voices can be heard in award-winning audiobooks, cartoons, and movies, from work by James Cameron to The Wonderpets. She recently narrated all twelve novels in Arthur Ransome's classic British series. Her bestselling novel The English American, which sprang from her hit one-woman show, made the top ten list of best author audiobook narrations of all time, along with President Obama, Jane Fonda, and E. B. White.

Review :
"Agatha Raisin is as vulnerable and awkward as ever in her 28th outing...When the police don't immediately find the killer, Agatha nudges Sir Edward Chumble to hire her to solve the case. Fans of the books and the TV series will enjoy Beaton's characters and humor." -- "Library Journal" "The usual cast of characters is present in this humorous cozy, which is sure to please Agatha's fans and those who love village mysteries." -- "Booklist" "The Agatha Raisin series is my guilty pleasure--it's full of perfectly pitched interest, intrigue, and charm." -- "Lee Child, #1 New York Times bestselling author, praise for the series"
