Curiosamente Delfin Prats Pupo (Holguin, 1945) es uno de los poetas cubanos vivos mas significativos y uno de los menos estudiados, pese al timido reconocimiento de algunos criticos, el numero creciente de entrevistas que se la ha hecho en los ultimos anos y el interes que su obra despierta tanto dentro como fuera de la isla. La "temida polisemia" en que ha permanecido el autor de Para festejar el ascenso de Icaro, asediado por aca-demicos, profesores y poetas, ha convertido a Prats Pupo en una especie de "raro" en nuestro medio, en un ente receptor del arrollador austro de la cultura, por una parte, y en vortice de polemicas interpretaciones, por otra. La obra del ganador del Premio David de Poesia 1968 con Lenguaje de mudos, victima de incomprensiones de la epoca, que para algunos solo fue un indefinible rumor alimentado por lo extraliterario, es una de las tesituras liricas mas altas de la literatura cubana y, por consi-guiente, es el objeto de estudio de este libro que, al margen de todas las cosas, aspira a conformar una imagen lo menos edulcorada posible de alguien que ha vivido con la misma intensidad el esplendor y el caos de nuestros tiempos. Involucrado en permanentes migraciones interiores, segun se comprendera en este libro, el creador no se ha conformado con el develamiento de una travesia lirica y esencial hacia los origenes (Paraiso, jardin, Eden, huerta) sino que, al injertar su ideario poetico en el plano de su trayectoria vital, sus obsesiones con la unidad cosmica lo han compulsado a sustentar una vida azarosa en incesante fuga. Acechado por sus fantasmas en los parajes de la provincia donde ha buscado amparo, al final de su huida el poeta, atrincherado en la cultura, se ha refugiado en cualquier cosa (el pensamiento sufi, el budismo, el taoismo, etc.) que lo aisle de los extraor-dinarios lugares donde fue feliz cuando perpetraba, con mayor frecuencia, el oficio de argonauta idiomatico. Realizar la exegesis de dos poemarios, un libro de narraciones y un sorprendente dietario lirico conduce inevitablemente a la reiteracion de temas, subtemas, frag-mentos, etc. en el ensayo, razon que permitira dar fe de las zozobras del poeta y del pergenador e interprete de versos que es el autor de esta primera aproximacion in extenso al universo ideo estetico del cubano. Para el estudio se han tenido en cuenta las ultimas versiones de los textos realizadas por Prats y se ha pretendido un enfoque policontactual para el abordaje teorico metodologico, aproximacion que permita entender y explicar un tanto las dimensiones de una poetica muy personal, evitando valoraciones que deriven hacia lo caricaturesco o hacia la fria teorizacion, consecuencia de un itinerario a traves de las movedizas arenas de lo especulativo. La estructura del libro intenta ser participe de la voluntad transgresora que lo mueve y de la intercomunicacion, del dialogo entre los textos. Por tal motivo se intercalan fragmentos poco conocidos de la obra de Prats, intervenciones narrativas para desestabilizar las maneras tradicionales de "agredir" un texto de este tipo, generalmente subdividido en introduccion, desarrollo y conclusiones."
