A journey of adventure, faith and spiritual tenacity, is this story beginning in Curry Canyon during an epic blizzard in the Black Hills of SD. It has been characterized by a retired history professor as a work of merit as a history of the Great Depression, WW II, the post war period. He revised his assessment to say that he was fascinated by the book and hopes to see it made into a movie. About the Author :
Dolores Curry (aka Lichtenwalner and Mehring) was born in Curry Canyon, near Mt. Rushmore in SD in 1933. Her early education was in Rapid City, and one-room rural schools on the prairie in SD. She graduated from Sturgis High School where she edited the school newspaper. During HS she was a linotypist at the Sturgis Tribune. At nineteen she married, moved to PA and raised two daughters and a son in Stockertown PA. While living in the Easton area she was a proofreader of scientific abstracts at Mack Printing. Nineteen years after high school she graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in PA and a decade later attained her Masters Degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem PA. Her professional career included teaching first grade and special education, developing and administrating one of the first Drug Counseling Centers in PA in the late '60s, supervising a Child Study Team, conducting a Mental Health Counseling practice, working for the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities, becoming a CWA representative in NJ, and lastly, being a Park Ranger in SD. After retirement she volunteered for twelve years as a live-in counselor at the community of Innisfree in the Blue Ridge Mountains in VA. She has been an active member of the Episcopal church for sixty-five years. She resides in Elk Grove CA in the winter; in VA and PA in the summer.
