About the Author :
Jean Moule was born in South Carolina and raised in NewYork City and Los Angeles. She earned her bachelor's from the University of California at Berkeley, where she studied art, psychology and education and was arrested in the Free Speech Movement based on her profound commitment for making a positive difference in our world. While she and her forester husband raised three children in Oregon, she earned a masters from the University of Oregon and a doctorate from Oregon State University. She is an emerita faculty member at OSU where she continues to teach about multiple cultures online and through the honors college. Jean authored the textbook, Cultural Competence, A Primer for Educators, filled with many stories of schooling, some from her own family. She hopes that her work will help the nation's children, including her six grandchildren, to have culturally competent teachers. She has taken many of the concepts from her textbook and written them for both general and younger audiences. Books for children and young people connected to her work are included in many columns. Her words of inspiration come from her experiences and talks with her own children, grandchildren and friends. Her landscapes in pencil and watercolor illustrate her book and reproductions of any size, as well as cards, are available directly from her. Visit her website for additional images, as well as articles written by her.
