About the Book

This book will almost certainly surprise you and may even shock you. It is filled with stories and revelations that are profoundly honest...perhaps too honest for some readers. Like so many youngsters, the author was advised by wise people in his early days to develop a strong background in the three r's, reading, 'riting and 'rithmetic. This book's title also contains three r's, Evolution of a Rake, Rogue, Rascal. Rather quickly the author discovered that his advisors were incorrect two out of three times not simply regarding the three r's but often about much of whatever it was they passed on to him. Hence, almost immediately he began to smile and to admit to himself and to anyone else who would listen, that much of life is simply not what it seems. The answers given to so many issues and early youthful questions were the same old and easy ones, handed down from generation to generation, century after century. Even after developing a solid basis in the original three r's and then finding out that two of the disciplines didn't begin with an 'r, ' the old and easy answers to life's most pressing matters and issues were seldom questioned, initially not even by the author. They were simply accepted and passed on. Likewise in this book, the author fails to do what he set out to do-say what! Truisms, apothegms or any revelations devised to assist one along life's happy trail may be rather few unless derived unintentionally from the various accounts presented herein of which there are many. Essentially, the book is a yarn or perhaps an autobiographical sketch based on facts as recollected by the author, augmented once in awhile. Nonetheless, the book may clearly point out that "things are surely not always what they seem."

About the Author :
Paul Gutwein was named after his uncle Paul who crashed his own airplane during a family reunion in 1935 and was killed; it was an open cockpit airplane he had purchased for 50 dollars. His uncle was a kindly man with great potential and certainly a flare for adventure. The author was named after his uncle; well, there the similarity ends. The author's first wife may have thought he had potential; hence, the two of them created a fully accredited post-secondary school of business which they owned and operated for nearly sixteen years before selling out to a much larger organization. After his first wife died in 2003, the author remarried in 2004. His current wife, a beautiful and talented opera singer, also thought the author had potential. He could, she noted, easily imitate the mannerisms of many people, the way they walked and talked. She even applauded his sense of humor of which she, too, has a goodly measure. Both wives may have thought the author to be a somewhat kindly person since he smiled a lot and seldom was provoked to fits of anger. As to the element of adventure, the author will leave that up to the reader as he/she stumbles sleepily through the Evolution of a Rake, Rogue, Rascal (or rather bounds jauntily from chapter to chapter, hanging with great expectation on every word).
