Section 1 of this workbook develops editing and revising skills by giving students practice correcting and improving passages. By completing this section, students will develop the skills needed to achieve a high language score, become familiar with the question types on the state test, and gain experience completing revising and editing tasks. The Reading score is determined based on multiple choice questions assessing phonics, decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension. The quizzes in Section 2 of this workbook will develop the specific writing and language skills that students need to perform well on these questions. AIMS Reading Test Preparation The AIMS Reading test items include multiple choice questions that assess language and vocabulary skills. The quizzes in Section 2 of this workbook will improve student performance on these questions. By focusing on each skill individually, students will gain a full understanding of the skill. This understanding will allow students to answer these questions quickly and confidently, which offers the dual benefits of improving test performance and reducing test anxiety. AIMS Writing Test Preparation This book will prepare students for the AIMS Writing test that all Arizona students take in Grade 5. This early test preparation will ensure that students have the skills and confidence to perform well on this test. The AIMS Writing test includes writing and editing tasks similar to those in Section 1 of this book. The test also includes a writing task where students produce writing in response to a prompt. Section 3 of this workbook will prepare students for this part of the test. It provides guided practice for the types of writing tasks that students will encounter on the AIMS Writing test. Students will have practice planning and writing stories, personal narratives, and essays. The hints provided with the writing tasks will ensure that students score well when completing writing tasks.
