About the Book

Deep inside the city was a hip and happy hare. He was zippy, sometimes lippy, takin' taxis everywhere. Way out in the country was a tortoise calm and cool. He was quite the mellow fellow chillin' out beside the pool. Kids will love to move and groove with this dynamic duo as they hop and pop toward the finish line in this hip-hopping retelling of the classic tale.

About the Author :
Kristyn Crow is the mother of seven wonderfully creative children and is married to a policeman who doubles as a mad scientist/inventor. They live in Utah. Christina Forshay graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a BFA in illustration. She lives in California.

Review :
"A fun read-aloud and a break from the routine moral." --School Library Journal "Crow clearly wants kids to move and groove with her new version of this beloved tale. What does this reincarnation bring? A syncopated hip-hop swing that has built-in action for listening and reading aloud . . . Propelling the story forward, however, is a positive energy that oozes from each spread. . . . An entertaining choice that will introduce children to the fable and show those familiar with it how traditional tales can be expanded." --Kirkus Reviews "Crow employs amusing imagery . . . and the story is laden with playful sound effects that will add plenty of punch to readalouds, with the fast tempo providing additional energy. Forshay's illustrations, in saturated opaque colors in cheerful hues, offer amusing comic modeling in her animal cast. . . . Those familiar with Aesop's version will cheer for the famous pair along the way." --The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books "Just when you think there couldn't possibly be another way to retell Aesop's 'The Tortoise and the Hare, ' Crow gives us a rappin' rhythmic rendition with no particular variations to the traditional tale. . . . This will be a fun read-aloud that children of all ages will enjoy. Illustrator Forshay has done an incredible job with facial expressions and minute details." --Library Media Connection "The lanky urbanite's bravado and the hoppy pace should insure that this retelling earns some read-aloud time." --Publishers Weekly Online
