About the Book

The memoir from the greatest relief pitcher of all time While he is listed along with Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, and DiMaggio as a top-five Yankee of all time, Rivera is also a man of God and family whose contributions to charity and community ensure a meaningful life long after his time as the Closer is over. He is the man who has intimidated thousands of batters by merely opening a bullpen door. Now he will tell his story for the first time: the championships, the bosses (including the Boss), the rivalries, and the struggles of being a Latino baseball player in the United States and of maintaining Christian values in professional athletics. The twelve-time all-star will discuss what it's like to run up to that mound with the game-or the season-squarely on his shoulders.

About the Author :
Mariano Rivera was a New York Yankee for nineteen seasons. He is Major League Baseball's all-time saves and ERA leader, a thirteen-time All-Star, and a five-time World Champion. He and his wife, Clara, have three sons and live in New York. Wayne Coffey is an award-winning journalist for the New York Daily News and the author of more than thirty books, including The Boys of Winter, a New York Times bestselling chronicle of the 1980 US Olympic hockey team. A three-time Pulitzer nominee, he was named one of the nation's top sports feature writers by the Associated Press three times in five years. Michael Kay is the Yankees play-by-play announcer for the YES network. He also hosts the network's CenterStage series and cohosts The Michael Kay Show on ESPN Radio. He has earned more than twenty Emmy nominations and seven Emmy wins while at YES. He lives in Hartsdale, New York, with his wife, Jodi Applegate, and their daughter.

Review :
A warmhearted, charmingly frank baseball memoir. -- "New York Times" Baseball's greatest relief pitcher reflects on his just-concluded surefire Hall of Fame career...Will be devoured by Yankees loyalists and happily sampled by all baseball fans. -- "Kirkus Reviews" Engaging...His tale transcends team loyalties. It even transcends baseball. It is the story of a humble man of deep faith doing great things under enormous pressure. 'I am an imperfect man on an imperfect journey, ' he writes. And what a journey it's been. -- "Washington Post" Intensely competitive and a gifted athlete, Rivera will delight baseball fans. But the memories recounted here-both on the field and off-ultimately reveal something deeper: Rivera's almost incredible humility, unshakeable faith, and devotion to his family (he married his childhood sweetheart, Clara). In an age of bravado and bluster in professional sports, he is one of the few athletes who has earned a right to brag. Yet Rivera's elegance and class manage to somehow outshine his accomplishments. -- "Publishers Weekly" Mariano Rivera...has become a kind of living god of baseball. -- "New York Times, on the author" This man is greatness personified...There has never been anyone like this. And it's likely there never will be. -- "ESPN online, on the author"
