About the Book

Each chapter identifies and unpacks one small habit. The habit is surfaced and examples provided to bring it to life. Then, different strategies are presented to course-correct on this habit. Each chapter is short in nature and easily digestible. This book can be read cover-to-cover or picked through chapter by chapter in any order desired. It is also designed to be read once all the way through with leaders identifying habits that speak to them and returning to those chapters as needed.

Review :
Small habits can turn into bad habits and Dr. Dake’s insights are SPOT ON and powerful for those who are either entering the educational leadership work-force for the first time or those who have much to learn—because THEY want to learn more to become better. This is a GREAT read with practical insights and tips on how NOT to stink, but how to become FRAGRANT in what some think is a “stinky profession” that others HATE due to politics or smoke-screening of those who shove nonsense on an innocent system. Read THIS book and learn more about how to help the profession survive and thrive! Dr. Dake does it and more! In Identifying Small Habits, Dr. Larry Dake shares numerous short stories and examples of effective leadership along with the small nuances associated with successful strategies. Through the power of storytelling, he brings to life relatable, practical, and useful do’s and don’ts for all leaders. I love the concept that Larry drives home by ‘hitting singles’ compounding one’s pathway of becoming an impactful and significant leader. BOOM!!! Identifying Small Habits is the book that all school leaders will want to immediately add to their reading list! Dr. Dake takes relevant issues facing today's school leaders and provides actionable insights to immediately improve professional practice. I wish I had read this book 15 years ago when I started my educational leadership journey - it would have saved me a LOT of missteps and headaches!
