About the Book
For those wishing to acquire knowledge on national development issues, this comprehensive compendium traverses a spectrum of subjects that the audience ought to be well acquainted with.
The Editors provide instructive findings regarding national development, economic growth and their determinants, but they also offer historical perspectives on the subject and the implications for developing countries.
The book addresses a suite of critical themes regarded by development experts to be germane in considering the pertinence of policies and their effective execution.
These seven general thematic areas are explored:
• Leadership, governance, policy and strategy
• Public sector and public financial management
• Culture, institutions and people
• Natural resources
• Science, technology and infrastructure
• Private sector and financial markets
• Marketing, branding and service delivery
This thematic approach enables the contributors to explore the impact of the constituents of each subject area on national development, within the context of a developing economy. The significance of the findings for the relevant stakeholders is consequently reviewed. The combination of theory and practice makes the book and its contents unique.

Review :
'The editors are admirably suited to meet the objectives of this compendium, combining experience of policy fieldwork in various nations with an insider's view of developing economies. The result is an excellent book that will appeal to a wide audience, yet meets professional standards.' H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, President, Republic of Ghana, 2001-2009 'It is amazing to run through the topics of what have been well and eloquently treated in this book and relate issues dealt with to our present situation in Ghana. The book offers practical advice based on facts and truths and it is a "must read" for business executives, public sector executives and for those in politics aspiring to rule our dear country, Ghana.' Elizabeth Joyce Villars, Founder and Chairperson, Camelot Ghana Limited 'This book is exciting, engaging, and above all, very readable. The chapters are well researched and many of the epigrams are superb. Those inquiring seriously into national development issues cannot fail to consider its key determinants which are competently presented in this collection.' E.H. Amonoo-Neizer, Vice Chancellor Emeritus, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana 'An undeniably well researched and practical compendium for all emerging market followers; especially for those committed to an Africa "rising" and the unique contribution of Ghana.' Ken Ofori-Atta, Chairman and Co-Founder of Databank Financial Services (Ghana) Ltd and Databank Africa SME Agriculture Fund 'With passion for learning and the determination to promote knowledge and wisdom, hence this book has come to fruition, bravo.' Captain (rtd) Prince Kofi Amoabeng, Executive Chairman, UT Group of Companies 'For the sheer breadth and completeness of the topics covered on the subject of development; and for the diversity of voices represented - from Ghanaian academia, private sector and public sector - this book is worth reading by anyone who is truly interested in Ghana's path to a brighter future.' Patrick G. Awuah, Jr, Founder and President, Ashesi University College, Ghana 'This remarkable book is the fruit of sustained painstaking research. Collectively the authors seamlessly elucidate the multiplicity of factors that significantly contribute to development - but they do so thankfully, using such a colourful style and language that the book comes to life and is a pleasure to read. I highly recommend it.' Francis K. Allotey, President, Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences
