About the Book

With Inspector Montalbano's most recent outings hitting the New York Times bestseller list, Andrea Camilleri's darkly refined Italian mysteries have become favorites of American crime novel fans. This latest installment finds Montalbano in search of his missing right-hand man. Before leaving for vacation with Livia, Montalbano witnesses a seagull doing an odd dance on the beach outside his home--and then the bird suddenly drops dead. Stopping in at his office for a quick check before heading off, he notices that Fazio is nowhere to be found and soon learns that he was last seen on the docks, secretly working on a case. Montalbano sets out to find him and discovers that the seagull's dance of death may provide the key to understanding a macabre world of sadism, extortion, and murder.

About the Author :
Andrea Camilleri (1925-2019) wrote the internationally bestselling Inspector Montalbano mysteries as well as historical novels. His books have been made into television shows in Italy and translated into thirty-two languages. His thirteenth Montalbano novel, The Potter's Field, won the Crime Writers' Association International Dagger Award and was longlisted for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. Stephen Sartarelli is an award-winning translator and poet. Alexander Adams is a pseudonym for narrator Grover Gardner. His most high-profile book to date is the unabridged novelization of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, recorded in a joint effort by BOT and Random House under the Adams moniker. He lives in Maryland.

Review :
"Grover Gardner's narration is, as always, outstanding. His Montalbano captures his charm, intelligence, grit, and, of course, his love for everything Sicilian, especially the food, his colleagues, and Livia. Gardner's voices for Augello and Catarella are, simply, amazingly accurate to Camilleri's text. This entire series is a gem that listeners will want to keep around to listen to again, especially during a cold winter...Stephen Sartarelli's translation is simply a marvel." -- "SoundCommentary.com " "Montalbano's fifteenth case features more hilarious bark and some satisfying bite." -- "Kirkus Reviews" "The charm of a Montalbano mystery derives in large part from the way the inspector's helter-skelter approach to investigation mirrors the inherent messiness of life...By the time Montalbano climbs out of the muck this time, he's a bit more battered than usual, but that's nothing a very large bowl of caponata won't fix." -- "Booklist" "The wonderfully rendered camaraderie between Catarella and Montalbano is one of the book's highlights. In addition to searching for the missing Fazio, Montalbano tries to identify a body found in a deserted well. Both investigations are pieces of a larger, satisfying mystery." -- "Publishers Weekly" "This is the fifteenth book in Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano series about a Sicilian police inspector, his comrades and lovers, and the eccentric characters and deadly Mafiosi who commit the crimes he investigates...Grover Gardner remains a master of audiobook narration. His clear, warm voice and perfectly regulated cadence make almost any book feel like a story told by an old friend. The crimes Montalbano investigates are horrific. Despite that, Camilleri's regular references to delicious Italian dishes will make listeners' mouths water." -- "AudioFile"
