About the Author :
Yushi Shen is an outstanding scholar and social activist. He has over 15-year of research, development and management experiences in the IT industry, and leadership experiences in various influential international and local organizations. With five books and over twenty research papers published, Dr. Shen is an internationally recognized expert in the areas of cloud computing, wireless communications and video coding. He has served as reviewers, associate editors, technical program committee chairs / members for numerous international conferences and core journals. He is the recipient of various awards and recognitions. Dr. Shen is currently Microsoft’s Cloud Business Development, Government Affairs and Strategy Director in the China region. He has joined Microsoft headquarter in Redmond, WA since year 2006, and worked on the design and serviceability for general Windows Media (WM) techniques and the WM platform. From 2010 to 2012, Dr. Shen has served as the Chair of Chinese Microsoft Employee Network (CHIME). Since late 2012, he has stepped up as the Chair of entire Microsoft Asian Employee Resources Group (ERG), overseeing the 17 Asian ethnicity groups with more than 10,000 Microsoft employee members. Dr. Shen received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Tsinghua University, Beijing, P. R. China, in 2001, and Ph.D. degree in electrical and computer engineering, from the Univ. of California at San Diego (UCSD), La Jolla, in 2006, and MBA degree from the Univ. of Washington (UW), Seattle, in 2012. Yale Li is among the earliest cloud security expert (CCSK) in the world. As Microsoft’s Principle Security Architect, he is currently responsible for data security, applications development security, and emerging market security in SAFE-T (Security Accelerator for Emerging Technologies) team. Yale is also Board Member & Research Director of Cloud Security Alliance - Greater Seattle Area Chapter, Graduate Education Partner at the Center of Information Assurance and Cyber Security at University of Washington, and CEO’s Advisor of multiple Microsoft partner companies. As a security professional, Yale has worked on corporate security strategy, security aspects of emerging technologies such as cloud computing, mobile computing and big data, and emerging markets such as China. In his 14 years at Microsoft, Yale has served as Windows source code manager, Tools development lead, and Web Platform chief engineer and other various positions in a number of Microsoft divisions. He has completed secure cloud adoption, Windows engineering excellence, shared source delivery, and large number of enterprise software development, deployment and management. Ling Wu is the Principal System Integration Engineer at EMC. She has been working on database, data warehouse, and business intelligence since 2000. She has served as DBA, BI developer, Data Warehouse Architect at T-mobile, AT&T, and Washington Mutual Bank. In the last couple of years, she has focused on data warehouse architecture on SQL and Oracle solution at Visa and EMC. Now, she works in the Enterprise solution group at EMC and is dedicated to cloud storage and storage solutions for enterprise data warehouse architecture. Shaofeng Liu holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), one of the top universities in system and networking. He holds BS and MS degrees from Tsinghua University. He is now working as a Windows CORE software design engineer on Hyper-V, a core virtualization technology supporting the architecture of future operating systems and Windows Azure cloud platforms. He has carried out research in grid computing, scheduling, parallel fault tolerance, database optimization, machine learning, large-scale data preservation and distribution, and so on. His Ph.D. work breaks through existing bottlenecks of Forward Error Correction code by parallelizing code across data sources and streams, using a creative Cross-Stream code invented by him. He is actively involved in research at Calit2, and works closely with Cinegrid research community and AMPAS to design large-scale data preservation and distribution strategies. He is now an associate board director in Chinese Microsoft Employee (CHIME), and has served as the president of Tsinghua alumni association at San Diego. Qian Wen is an IT strategist, business leader and enthusiast for world cultures. Her specialty areas include but are not limited to business modeling, international team dynamics and organizational behavior, strategic investment and marketing, cloud computing architecture, network communications and doing business with China. She currently serves as the CEO of Endronic Corporation that she co-founded with her brother in 1994. In its early days, the company did engineering consulting for AT&T wireless and Matsushita Electric Industrial on the installation of wireless communication systems for Boeing airplanes. The company specializes in IT development and strategic business consulting with the current focus being Cloud Computing Architecture, Business Modeling and doing business with China. In 2012, Qian served as CEO for one of the top three creative marketing and business consulting firms in China. Prior to co-founding Endronic Corp., Qian worked at the Microsoft VC++ Group, and co-authored the Microsoft VC++ Reference Manuals. While at Microsoft, she facilitated department wide customer visits that reached out to over 20,000 world-wide Visual Studio customer install-base. She coordinated the site visits and ensured that information can be quickly disseminated with the entire department, such that customer feedbacks can be incorporated into the product design in a timely manner. Qian holds an MSEE from the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of Washington. She entered college at the age of 15, obtained her BSEE at the age of 18, MSEE at the age of 19, and became a Ph.D. candidate at the age of 20.
