About the Book

A new Gartner report says that by 2014, citizen developers will build at least 25% of new business applications. A citizen developer is defined as an end user who creates business applications for consumption by others using corporate-IT-sanctioned development and runtime environments. This has profound implications for the future of IT in your organization. For citizen developers to succeed, they will need a new set of tools, as well as a new approach to application development and delivery. There will also be a critical new role to be played by IT in supporting citizen developers and bringing them out of the shadows. Unleash the Power of force.com addresses this new wave of IT - what it is, what it means, and how your organization can take advantage of it. This book describes: the burgeoning digital economy and how it is driving the need for citizen developers; the foundation and building blocks for a consistent enabling platform to support citizen developers; an implementation plan for a smooth transition to citizen application development; and a comprehensive description of force.com as a ready-to-go, complete citizen developer enabling platform. This book will give you a comprehensive understanding of the enormous challenges that IT faces today, and what can be done about them by leveraging the power of force.com. About the Author :
Jonathan Sapir has over 30 years experience helping clients leverage information technology to build their business. After starting out as a system engineer for IBM, Jonathan built a successful mid-size consulting firm in Chicago in the 1990's, then grew a software product development company which was acquired in 2007. Returning to consulting, Jonathan started a new company, SilverTree Systems, Inc., to help companies migrate to the Cloud. Jonathan has previously written two well-received books: Igniting the Phoenix: A New vision for IT in 2003, which foretold many of the ideas that have become reality, especially in the areas of enterprise social software, cloud computing, and self-service application development; and Power in the Cloud: Using Cloud Computing to build information systems at the edge of chaos in 2008, which looked at building information systems in the context of complex adaptive systems theory. "I'm an avid follower of Jonathan's thoughts and body of work. When starting down the current path of Web 2.0 three years ago, Jonathan's book & interviews captured exactly what is now transpiring in terms of business transformation. I have quoted Jonathan on many, many occasions; his insights into understanding emerging key business issues both from the IT perspective and the line-of-business have been truly visionary." - Rod Smith, IBM VP Emerging Technologies "Jon is a wonderfully talented, exceptionally creative, and forward-thinking luminary who can add significant value to any organization and leap-frog their thinking. Jon has proven time and again that he can think things through, not only at a practical level, but also at a level of fore-thought that few venture." - Ron Schmelzer, Senior Analyst, Zapthink
