About the Author :
Author Neal Evan Parker was born in Brooklyn in 1956. While sailing the waters of New England as a teenager, he became devoted to traditional sailing vessels. By the age of 20 he was a licensed captain, and in the years that followed he skippered over a dozen schooners and traditional craft. In 1986 Captain Parker purchased the derelict 67-foot schooner yacht Wendameen . Dedicating four years to her complete restoration, Parker placed the schooner into the Maine windjammer business, where for another twenty years, he happily managed to pay his bills. In April 2005, Capt. Neal Parker traded his beloved vessel for a daughter a more than equitable deal. Since that time Parker has devoted his time to professional ship model work, writing and enjoying life as a full-time father. Artist Annabel Parker, and daughter of the author, was born in Rockland, Maine in 2002. At age one and a half she took up a pencil and began to re-create the world around her. During Annabels first week of kindergarten she was told by her teacher it was not okay to draw nudes in class. Her father assured her that Picasso and Degas were told the same thing. At age seven Annabel illustrated her first book. Written for her by her father, Tillie Beene and Scooter is, in the history of childrens books, a well-kept secret. Her second book, Super Artistic Lady, demonstrates Annabels keen growth as an artist. Now nine, Annabels work in The Seven Trials of Peter Pfepper displays her remarkable understanding of the relationship of shape and movement. Its only a matter of a few short years before her father cant afford her work and Annabel will be a published author in her own right.
